About this listen

Lola Sphinx's life as a witch has always been rather normal. That is, until a non-magical man from the 1960s wound up stuck in her world. When Detective Dereck gets a little jealous, he takes Lola out on a lunch date to talk about her new friend, whom she has cleverly disguised as an elf.

But when one of the servers winds up dead, can Dereck put his jealousy aside to work along with Lola to find the killer at large?

This is a perfect short cozy for when you need a few minutes to immerse yourself with magic, mystery, humor, and mischief!

Rats and Bats! is the third book in the Lola Sphinx Cozy Mysteries.

Cute mystery

A fun, quick mystery. A portion of the series long story is addressed, while still unfolding a side mystery.

Real life behind the supernatural!

I’m only a few chapters in, but this is a great story. It reminded me (a bit too much!) of my job when Derek explained how the IMA big shots came in and put down the leads (and are even tougher on the rookies). Sheesh! More romance here than books 1 or 2. Such realism masked by this fun cast of supernaturals! Plus I love vamps, so this is a great story for me. Narrator’s range of voices keeps this very fun too!

Quick & Cute

Really good, clean, cozy mystery. Each book picks up right where the previous one ends. In some ways this series is more like a serial rather than individual stories. We keep learning more about Lola and her paranormal world, which is quite fun.
Once again, though, I found somethings distracting. I understand the need for reviews. I understand how important they are. But interrupting the book with an author's appeal for reviews is exceedingly annoying. Especially as these are very short and I tend to binge listen them. Usually I will listen to audiobooks more than once, but interruptions like this make me reconsider doing that.
Also, although she is getting better, the narrator continues to pause in strange places. It disturbs the flow of the sentence and ultimately the story.
And lastly, sometimes the narrator attempts voices, sometimes she doesn't. Make a choice! And when she does voices, they don't seem to fit the character.
Good story, but I'm not impressed with this narrator.
