Publisher's summary

Buddy is nothing but a forgotten plastic love doll. Long ago, an alpha paid a warlock to bring him to life with magic, but that man hasn’t wanted Buddy in years. Every night Buddy goes into heat all alone.

Until Buddy meets an alpha named H. H is the kindest man Buddy’s ever known, and he gives hugs that make Buddy feel happy and safe.

If only Buddy could be a real omega made of flesh and blood. Then maybe H would want him.

If only....

Real is an MM romance retelling of Pinocchio with MPreg, knotting, and lace. It’s the second book in the Lost Red Wolves series, but it stands alone.

The Stuff of (Costly) Magic...

A rescued red wolf shifter omega...or is he? Not exactly, and it's brilliant! Devious warlocks, broken alphas, desperate omegas, and magic that comes with a price.

Alpha H (aka Timothy) is a caretaker at the omega shelter Buddy is brought to, and is tasked with keeping him safe while his case is sorted. Only Buddy isn't like other omegas... as H observes, "Buddy seems extremely human one moment, and mechanical the next." For the first time, they are truly seen and wanted - glorious flaws and all (cheers for body positivity) - and their slow-burn, blazing hot, heart-healing romance, with its build-up of trust, desire, and deep love, is tender and hopeful.

Narrator Zachary Zaba delivers a tremendous performance here, aptly conveying Buddy's innocence and vulnerability, and H's warmth, compassion, and measured manner. His female voices are also very believable.

This is such an inventive, curious, and compelling hurt/comfort love story - and world, really - the sort to completely sink into while listening. I look forward to more in this series.

Your Truth

This story is full of so much heart. It is an emotional read as you are pulled into both Buddy and H's past. There are both so caring and willing to sacrifice. I love the justice in the story that lets the characters still be their true selves. I love this story very much.
I listened to the audio version and it was very well done.

Emotional and Sweet Listen!

Zachary is a new narrator for me, and he did such a stunning job of voicing this fairy tale of a story! His adorable voice for Buddy made me just want to cuddle Buddy the entire time! His H voice is so deep and caring! As a retelling of Pinocchio this story was fresh, clever and very original! There are sweet caring times, sensual sexy times, and a whole lot of magic and mystery! Wonderful world and character building! Very descriptive with a perfect HEA! Highly recommend on Audible!

Absolutely loved it

This was so freaking good! Buddy broke my heart, especially when he would talk about being real. All he wants is to be real & loved. His "owner" Dorian keeps him locked up on a closet & tells him that he is useless and not right. H/Timothy, was saved from the breeding pits and has been muzzled, meaning his canines have been extracted so he couldn't bond with any of the Omega's. It's horrible, absolutely gut wrenching what they went through. He works for the red wolf sanctuary & is so good with the children. He meets Buddy when his only friend Candlewick, saves him from the abusive home he is living in. When he meets Buddy, he is shocked to see that he is plastic, but there is a spark. We have a the mystery of how Buddy came to be and why, the truth behind everything and watching these two fall in love. H knows that he can't bond with Buddy because he is muzzled and is willing to walk away so that Buddy can have a life. The scene in the Den of Dreams where Buddy wants to pretend he is real, H's mate & pregnant with his pups, brought me to tears. I loved seeing these two get their HEA & the ending was just perfect. I can't wait for the next book which is Candlewick/Isaiah's story.

An interesting take on an old fairy tale

I wasn’t quite sure what I was getting into with this story, unsure of how a retelling of Pinocchio would translate into an mpreg story, but this was such a sweet and unusual story. There was a lot of interesting world building, something that this author really excels at, and I loved how great Buddy and H were together. This was my first audio book with this narrator, but I really enjoyed his voice and will definitely listen to other books narrated by him in the future.

magical!!!

I've never read a Pinocchio retelling before and I was very intrigued! I really really loved the world and the magical system. The author has created a very interesting world and I found myself getting lost in the story. The two main characters, Buddy and Timothy, were wonderful and very relatable. I cared for them instantly and I was really invested in their story. I really liked it that they had to fight for their happy ending because it felt so so satisfying when they finally got their happily ever after. The side characters were very interesting too and I hope we'll get more stories in this universe. The narrator was amazing! He brought this magical story to life beautifully! I felt like I was watching a movie.

Oh the feels!

I loved this story when I read it. And when I got the chance to listen to it to do a language check, I couldn’t have said yes any quicker!

It does come with a few trigger warnings though. Mentions of off page domestic violence. On page verbal abuse and body image issues.

That being said, the author handles these subjects with the gravity and respect they deserve. As a survivor, I could see myself in the struggles Buddy had with putting himself back together after what he’d been through. And I admittedly shed more than a few tears throughout the story.

Zachary Zaba was, as always, a great pleasure to listen to. He portrays the emotions so well and his Norwegian is not too shabby either. I’m very impressed!

This modern day retelling of Pinocchio is amazing and has my warmest recommendations!
