About this listen

Rebecca (Booktrack Edition) adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!

Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again...

The novel begins in Monte Carlo, where our heroine is swept off her feet by the dashing widower Maxim de Winter and his sudden proposal of marriage. Orphaned and working as a lady's maid, she can barely believe her luck. It is only when they arrive at his massive country estate that she realizes how large a shadow his late wife will cast over their lives - presenting her with a lingering evil that threatens to destroy their marriage from beyond the grave.

First published in 1938, this classic Gothic novel is so compelling that it won the Anthony Award for Best Novel of the Century.

*Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Rebecca, Rebecca, Rebecca... hmmm....

I read this book years ago for school but while browsing for another good novel, I stumbled across this classic. I thought back to see how much of it I could remember and came up with very little enough to count. However, as I embarked once again upon the novel, many memories came flooding back. I was surprised by how much I recalled. Rebecca intrigued me just as much now, as she had those many years ago. I'd like to know more about Rebecca's character via first person. I'd like to learned more of her life before she came to be the first Mrs. De Winter who, even in death, still had such an impact/control on Manderly, to include the heavy shadow the current Mrs. De Winter felt as if she walking in.

Several times I forget where I was in real life.

I hated the first chapter and yet.. . This story is very good. It's a Cinderalla marries her Prince Charming premise, and yet its really fun to criticize the narrator and still have complete sympathy with her too. It also provides a really an interesting moral dilemma because its natural to want to cheer for the narrator and the people she loves, but should we?

By the end of the book, I listened to this while driving, I found myself imagining the scenes in so much detail that it would confuse me, I would for a moment loss track of where I was in my journey driving home, like all of sudden everything was unfamiliar. I could see and feel what the narrator was seeing and feeling.

It's just exciting in the way there is that little tug of push and pull, with all of the privilege of wealth on such obvious display. Absolutely great story!

A masterpiece of gothic suspense

I come back to this book every other year or so. While nothing is quite like reading it for the first time, it never fails to thrill. I have yet to read it's equal.
The narrator did a wonderful job of conveying emotion, both written and inferred, and the booktrack version leant itself to creating a chilling atmosphere.

perfect plot

I don't remember who said it but I've heard people describe this story as perfect. the pace is wonderful, the plot intriguing, and the characters excellent. it is better than any of the films that have been adapted, although if I had to pick, the one that did it best was Hitchcock's 1940 film, even it doesn't capture the art of this story.

A good book, delightfully read.

The narrator was very good, and the story is a classic for a reason. Listening to this was a five star experience.

Fantastic

Really glad I listened to the book track edition, the story on its own is great but it really added to the atmosphere. And really what a great gripping story! One of my favorites books I’ve read/listened to in a while, so well done!

best book of all time for me!

there is nothing that will ever etch the opening sentence from my mind, since 8tg grade. I just love this book and the narration of the story as it is written. what a great take. and what fun being in the narrators mind during all her flights of fancy!

Wow!

I had never seen the Hitchcock film so I had no idea what to expect. I usually listen to audiobooks when I’m doing things like housework. But it’s couldn’t “put this down.” I couldn’t wait to hear the next chapter. The narrator was perfect for the story. The infrequent and subtle background music was just creepy enough to be effective. I’m glad I listened to this rather than just reading it.
