First published in three volumes in 1860 it tells the story of Tom and Maggie Tulliver, a brother and sister growing up on the river Floss. Maggie is deeply attached to her brother but their conflicting temperaments and outlook produce only stress and misunderstanding until they are finally reconciled in a moment of revelation before tragedy overtakes them.
English novelist George Eliot (1819-1880), real name Mary Ann (Marian) Evans was one of the leading writers of the Victorian era.

Would you listen to The Mill on the Floss again? Why?
Yes, I loved the story and have to say this is a huge tear jerker! I loved Maggie Tulliver and wanted things to work out for her. What was one of the most memorable moments of The Mill on the Floss?
When Maggie wakes up on the boat and discovers the treachery of Stephen. Her life is changed forever.Have you listened to any of Gabriel Woolf’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I may have, but he is an adequate narrator. No complaints, but he doesn't really stand out either. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
So many parts of the book that made me cry, I don't know if I can choose just one. The final chapter perhaps when the flood comes to the city.Any additional comments?
I love the way Ms. Eliot creates characters. This is my third book of hers that I have read. Silas Marner and Middlemarch are the others. She never makes one dimensional characters and draws you into their lives but don't always expect a happy ending. Life doesn't always have happy endings either.
Wonderful story of a woman trying to make it in Victorian England.
It always comes down to Family!

Masterpiece

The audio book was OK except for some flaws like car horns honking in the background and the reader misreading many phrases and going back to correct them. I do not know why these were not edited out.
Flawed and depressing
