Rivvy Neshama
About this listen
Winner of five national awards, this new, expanded edition was named one of the "Best Spiritual Books" of the year by Spirituality & Practice.
ON A DARK WINTER NIGHT with little to do, Rivvy Neshama took a "Find Your Highest Purpose" quiz. And the funny thing was, she found it: to live a sacred life. Problem was, she didn't know how.
But she set out to learn. And in the weeks and months that followed, she began to remember and encounter all the people and experiences featured in this book—from her father's jokes to her mother's prayers, from Billie in Harlem to a stranger in Salzburg, and from warm tortillas to the humble oatmeal. Each became a story, like a recipe passed down, beginning with her mother and her simple toast to life.
Neshama's true tales, a memoir of sorts, are filled with love, warmth, and timeless wisdom. They ground us, and they lift us up. They make us laugh, and they make us cry. And most of all, they connect us more deeply with the grace and meaning of our lives.

Story
Thousands of people have had near-death experiences, but scientists have argued that they are impossible. Dr. Eben Alexander was one of those scientists. Neurosurgeon Alexander knew that NDEs feel real, but are simply fantasies produced by brains under extreme stress. Then, Dr. Alexander’s own brain was attacked by a rare illness. The part of the brain that controls thought and emotion shut down completely. For seven days he lay in a coma. Then Alexander’s eyes popped open. He had come back. Alexander’s recovery is a medical miracle. But the real miracle of his story lies elsewhere.

A shrewd con artist with a genius IQ, Thurston intimidated David with beatings to coerce him into doing his criminal bidding. David's mom, too mentally ill to care for her children, couldn't protect him.

Story
In 1986, Paul Newman and his closest friend, screenwriter Stewart Stern, began an extraordinary project. Stuart was to compile an oral history, to have Newman’s family and friends and those who worked closely with him, talk about the actor’s life. And then Newman would work with Stewart and give his side of the story. The only stipulation was that anyone who spoke on the record had to be completely honest. The result is The Extraordinary Life of an Ordinary Man—revelatory and introspective, personal and analytical, loving and tender in places, always complex and profound.

A wonderful book, wonderfully narrated
Recipes for a Sacred Life really did lift me up! The author's stories and the narrator's performance are beautifully matched. I was completely drawn into the short stories and received a nugget of wisdom and peace with each one. Those nuggets, those little gems, will help me live a much happier, more fulfilled life. Yes, this book is that good.
AUDIBLE: You have this book in the wrong category. It's NOT a cookbook. It's a spirituality book (a wonderful spirituality book).

Wisdom along with laughter and tears
Last year I had read the hardcover of this wonderful book and had loved it. So I was very excited to get the audible copy so I could share this with my husband. Every night we play a chapter before we go to sleep...what a perfect way to end the day together! And I also love the thought that I can listen to the book anywhere and any time of day....if I am feeling particularly stressed, listening to a chapter always brings me to a contemplative, better place! I have recommended this audible book to all my friends and family. This beautiful book makes you ponder the wonderfulness of eveyday events
