Please know that this book was not written by an indigenous person. The author makes that clear right from the start. He does so with an understanding, respect and humbleness that is refreshing. This story was well done. the charecter development is well done, you can tell the author has a deep fascination, and respect for the region and its indigenous cultures, as well as a level of empathy and contemplation that is refreshing as a white person. I am curious what an indigenous person would think of this story, and I intend to ask them. for now at least I give this story and the narrator a solid 4 stars. it's engaging, educational, respectful piece of literature.

Let me be a good neighbor... that's the resolve that this story has left in my heart. It was a wonderful surprise to hear the Ojibwe language spoken! I only speak a few words that I learned trying to honor my friends with indigenous heritage so the glossary at the end is a true help and a happy surprise.
It is rare to find any history that has more than one lens yet this book provides many relatable perspectives. Additionally, it then builds a bridge for enemies to find common ground and even friendship. Tragic truths can be hard to hear when they are honest; Reclaiming Mini Sota has enough heart to carry the reader bravely through.
