About this listen

Welcome to Sutton Station: one of the world's largest working farms in the middle of Australia - where if the animals and heat don't kill you first, your heart just might.

Charlie Sutton runs Sutton Station the only way he knows how: the way his father did before him. Determined to keep his head down and his heart in check, Charlie swears the red dirt that surrounds him - isolates him - runs through his veins.

American agronomy student Travis Craig arrives at Sutton Station to see how farmers make a living from one of the harshest environments on earth. But it's not the barren, brutal, and totally beautiful landscapes that capture him so completely.

It's the man with the red dirt heart.

Loved Joel Leslie - Kudos!

Any additional comments?

You know what I love most about this story? Even though it's short, it manages to make me laugh, sigh, cry a little, fan myself, and feel all the fluffy feels.

Charlie has been resigning himself to being alone for a long time; his father's harsh words being a constant companion since taking over the station after his dad's death years ago. But Travis breaks through all his walls and barriers and steals Charlie's heart...one nose nudge at a time.

And damn if it doesn't make *me* melt every time.

Joel Leslie does a fantastic job bringing these characters to life. He sounds authentically Aussie and Texan, brings depth and nuance to the story, and displays every emotion beautifully.

Kudos sir, I can't wait to hear Book 2!

A lonely life for Charlie Sutton

Charlie runs Sutton Station in the middle of Australia. He works hard and keeps his head down hiding his true feelings; In comes American agronomy student to spend a month at Sutton Station, Can Charlie allow himself to find love? I enjoyed every aspect of this audiobook, characters, story, and narration. Joel Leslie's Australian accent made his storytelling perfect.

Enjoyable! - narration from the Aussie perspective

This is my first book by N.R. Walker. I quite enjoyed it, despite the obvious American editing. NO N.T. station owner is going to measure things in feet or yards. It'd be kilometres if they're being formal, klicks or k's if they're not. Stations are measured in hectares not acres. I'm also not sure about how it went from being a sheep to a cattle station. For starters they don't have sheep stations out in the middle of the NT. They are usually closer to the the coast. People don't go to college either. They go to uni but oh well! Anyway aside from obvious American editing I quite enjoyed the book.
The narration was interesting. While I enjoyed his voice this narrator tends to start his Aussie accents somewhat wobbly before he gets his stride. If you can ignore the obvious miss-pronunciation of a few words (e.g. verandah) then it's not too bad. It's just a pity he makes a 25 year old from the N.T. Sound like a 50 year old from the east coast. At one point he even seems to drift to a kiwi accent (perhaps that's where the sheep come in 😉)

hmmm

I have no idea why this book is popular. This is my second book I’ve read by the author; first one was Cronin’s key, which I liked a lot. So I was excited to this one. I kept waiting for something exciting to happen. Yeah the ending was predictable but I didn’t mind.

I didn't hate it, but I thought I'd love it more, and yes I want to know what will happen next. i know I will listen to it again before I start on book 2, so maybe I will change my rating by then.

Ranch people, a fish and a pig, isolated station.

Narrator is one of my favorite.

One of my favorites

I love this series so much! I’ve listened to all 4 books at least a dozen times. The books are amazing and Joel Leslie’s performance is absolute perfection.

Who doesn’t love a good cowboy love story?

Really enjoyed this Walker/ Leslie combo ( my favorite combo) and this was a lot of fun. Looking forward to the next volume, which I start tomorrow. lol. Not my favorite Walker novel, not as heart-tugging as her usual fare, but still damn good. And, as always, well written. Expertly narrated.

very passionate narration, and a heartwarming tale

I had forgotten just how much I loved this series, the narration brought it all back tenfold! very passionate, love the accents, the drama, the excitement. Joel Leslie did a great job with Walker's heart pounding story of love found in the barren Australian outback.

Pure love.

Wow. This M/M romance is the love story I will listen to again and again. I know it. This book series is THE ONE I want to see on the BIG SCREEN. The sweeping red dirt of the Australian desert, the Outback and its blue skies, kangaroos, cattle droving, the Northern Territory star-filled night sky and an epic love story between an Aussie and a Texan. Oh, sigh…

The moment Joel Leslie started narrating the story, he brought everyone to life. I could picture the characters, feel their chemistry they denied, absorbed the tension they radiated, and my heart slammed when they finally united. There is a story behind the romance, and it was the combination of story, romance and excellent narration that had me binge-listening to this series (three books on Audible so far). All I can do is BEG Audible to make books 3.5 and 4 available ASAP. I can read them on Kindle, but I NEED to hear Joel Leslie’s voice tell me the stories. What an amazing narrator. He NAILED the Australian accent which is so hard to mimic. The Texan accent sounds genuine too.

Red Dirt Heart is the first in a series about the same main characters, but it is a standalone with a HEA ending. No cliff-hanger. You can stop here if you wish. Stopping was not an option for me. So far, I have loved in equal measure the 3 books currently available on Audible. The love described here makes my breath stutter and heart trip. That’s what makes this 5 stars.
