Publisher's summary

Rio de Janeiro. Brazilians call it Cidade Maravilhosa - the Marvellous City - but crime festers in its favelas like cancer.

John Milton is visiting an old friend who runs a close protection business guarding the city's elite. Milton offers to stand in when one of his bodyguards doesn’t turn up for work. The job? Take the wife and daughter of an anticorruption judge to a school recital and bring them back again. Simple?

Not so much. The girl is snatched off the street, and Milton is nearly killed. As he recovers at a Group Fifteen safe house, he decides on two objectives.

First, find the girl.

Second, punish the kidnappers for what they’ve done.

Milton’s trip becomes a lethal quest into the heart of the lawless slums and against the gangs who wield the real power in Rio. But Milton won’t stop there - he’ll chase them right into the horrific heart of darkness until his special brand of justice has been well and truly served.

Welcome back, John!

I just can’t get enough of John Milton’s adventures. This was a fantastic story through and through. Dawson and Thorpe make a great team. The bad guys in this story are really good characters too. I recommend this book to all; however, if you are unfamiliar with the John Milton series, start at Book 1, The Cleaner.

John Milton is Awesome!!!!

Riveting...suspenseful...tense action that's typical in the John Milton series. The revenge factor is off the charts and Dawson writes with great depth to his characters and his story line is exceptional. Fans will enjoy this one! Looking forward to the next installment. Like the Jack Reacher novels from Lee Child you never want them to come to an end.

Wonderful..

One of the best John Milton yet. It was amazing reading about the slum area on the Hill in Rio. AND where there's a large slum area there's a "ruler" of it. It this case it was Antonio Rodrigues (AKA Garanhao.) He, and his hired killers, were a vicious group AND he made the mistake of killing one of John's friends. And the war and killing started. Oh, not to mention John going after the 6 year-old Garanhao had kidnapped. And John's so-called other friend who turned out to be a bad guy. It was a great book.

No romance and the F-bomb was used 32 times.

As for the narration: David Thorpe is always amazing.

Excellent as Always

Storyline is very entertaining, kept me wanting more. i listened to the book stopping only long enough to get a nights sleep. John Milton is one of the best ex-assassin's turned Redeemer that i have listened to. Reacher, Robie are still good books, but in my opinion they are all second to John Milton. i really enjoy the characters he meets, his old comrades and the people he helps. This definitely needs to be made into a series of movies or Netflix series. Mark Dawson-hurry up with the next installment

Another terrific novel in the John Milton series!!

Milton continues to roam the world trying to salve his guilt about murders he committed working for British Intelligence. REDEEMER finds him in Rio de Janeiro visiting an old friend when a young girl is kidnapped. Like most other novels in the series this one is a superb suspense mystery as there are no limits to what Milton will do to save the young girl. David Thorpe's narration is excellent.
