About this listen

Yoshiro escaped a career of crime with the mafia after they killed his family. For five years, he's dropped out of life. All he wants this Christmas is to be left alone. Then, Ebony and her kids accidentally crash onto his property during a snowstorm. For three years, they've been running from her husband - who's been more monster than man.

The storm picks up. They are forced to remain with Yoshiro until it dies down. And the threat of Ebony's monster remains, lurking within the shadows and threatening her safety. But Yoshiro knows all about death and blood. Her monster doesn't scare him. What has him terrified is that heartwarming feeling sparking between them. The more time Yoshiro spends with Ebony, the more she becomes a Christmas present that he's dying to open. Too bad, she's promised herself that she will never let another man in her or her children's life again.

Yet, sometimes the best Christmas presents come from a bullet. Every so often a good Christmas miracle is a cut-up body to end a nightmare. And even better, at just the right moment two lonely people can find light in their darkened souls and open their hearts to a new romance.

Contains mature themes.

Alright now

Firstly I lived the concept of a black heroine and a Japanese hero. That was everything. And it turned out so well. Ebony was this amazingly strong women and mother. Always looking out for her children first. It was so sad to know they ran for 3 year from her husband, Wyatt. It was even more disheartening that Wyatt had no problem not only putting his hands on ebony but also putting them on his oldest daughter Kia. Wyatt seemed to have no care about the children being present or experience his abuse.

Yoshiro was pretty cool with his humor and tenderness. He clearly had some wounds needing to be healed but he definitely was only about hurting those that deserved it. Not innocent bystanders. I felt for him when you discover how and why he lost his wife and son. I’m glad he killed the men that killed them.

The way Ebony and her kids quite literally crash into Yoshiro’s life was an accident and definitely a blessing. They needed each other. And by the end they heal each other. And it’s completely beautiful to watch the fall. I loved this story. And the beauty in even the dark parts.

Sn: Do not ever look up what the person behind the voice looks like it kind ruins it. I wish I knew that before I did. 😮‍💨

Ooooh baby baby! Love me some Yo Yo!

What an absolutely great story. I was shocked and captivated all at once from the very first chapter. Considering the subject is very familiar to me and my family, losing a love one to that type of violence was a trigger. It was a trigger for me to keep listening too.

It was soooo good and Mari, my absolute favorite female narrator of All time was outstanding. She made me feel Everything. I appreciate the writing, giving the heroine courage to do the unthinkable. Eric is a new narrator for me, but will never be forgotten. He showed how Yo Yo was smooth, confident, honest and vulnerable. You can really appreciate an Alpha male who's a ride or die. Yasss Yo Yo!

My only grip is the baby was 14lbs. Really Kenya? Anyway, I savored the action, suspense, facing your fears and those adorable wonderful kids. They writing for them was incredible. This is one of Kenya's masterpieces that I will visit again very soon.

Great story , characters and narration

I read this book and was so happy to see it in audible. I loved the story of Ebony, fleeing an abusive marriage with her children who happens upon Yoshiro ( who has some real issues of his own after the murder of his family) and their union, love and building a life together. It's Kenya Wright hot stuff at it's best and there is so much love and redemption for both characters, you feel you know them. Thanks to audible for the great narration of both characters. If I could give it a 10 , I would.

Sweet, Funny, Entertaining

This book was amazing. It was an interesting story that immediately caught my attention and kept it. The kids were perfectly written & played. Yoshiro was sexy as hell & Ebony was smart & likeable.
How can anyone help but love this book? I have not disagreed with negative reviews so whole heartedly. If you like happy endings, characters with interesting back stories and heart warming moments, this book is for you.

Great read

I loved every second of this book. First book of Kenyas I've read/ listened to. Eric and Mari voiced these characters well. I didn't want the story to end. the passion between these two is something you dream about. Would love to see this played out in a movie.

An explosion of emotions!

I’ve heard about this book before I bought it. After reading some of the comments, I decided to try it for myself. The book was an explosion of emotions, right from the first chapter. The characters are perfect for each other, and the story has a beautifully written plot. I would 10/10 recommend this book for anyone who loves romance, action, and comedy. I will definitely listen to this book again and again.

So good!!!

I loved this book. It was well written and kept me interested. The narrators took me on a journey. Great ending as well. I love the Asian male/Black female leads, such an interesting dynamic that they are so similar even coming from different backgrounds. It just goes to show, we as humans are all the same.... love it. As a mixed heritage black woman, I love seeing the diversity.
