About this listen
The Baxters is now an original series on Prime Video, starring Roma Downey and Ted McGinley.
A story of redemption and love at all costs, from Karen Kingsbury, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of “heart-tugging and emotional” (Romantic Times) life-changing fiction, co-authored with Gary Smalley.
A Shocking Betrayal
Kari Baxter Jacobs is furious, hurt, and confused. Her husband, Tim, a respected professor of journalism, is having an affair with a student. Stunned, Kari returns home to the Baxter family to sort things out. But when an old flame comes back into her life, she is more confused than ever.
A Difficult Decision
How can Kari forgive her husband? What could possibly ease the pain? And what about her own revived feelings for Ryan, a man she knows she should avoid?
A Reason to Hope
As Kari searches for answers, an unexpected discovery gives her hope for the future. But when she faces her darkest hour, can she find the faith and strength she needs to move on?
Redemption is the first book in the bestselling Christian fiction series about the Baxter family―their fears and desires, their strengths and weaknesses, their losses and victories. Each book explores key relationship themes as well as the larger theme of redemption, both in the characters’ spiritual lives and in their relationships.

Story
Years ago, the day before Ellie moved from Georgia to California, she and her best friend, Nolan, sat beneath the Spanish moss of an ancient oak tree where they wrote letters to each other, and sealed them in a rusty old metal box. The plan was to return 11 years later and read them. But now, as that date arrives, much has changed. Ellie, bereft of the faith she grew up with, is a single mom living in a tired apartment trying to make ends meet. Sometimes she watches television to catch a glimpse of her old friend - Nolan, now an NBA star, whose terrible personal tragedies fueled his faith and athletic drive in equal measure.

Story
I was warned about Tristan Cole. "Stay away from him," people said. "He's cruel." "He's cold." "He's damaged." It's easy to judge a man because of his past. To look at Tristan and see a monster. But I couldn't do that. I had to accept the wreckage that lived inside of him, because it also lived inside of me.

Story
Brett Bohlinger has forgotten all about the list of life goals she’d written as a naïve teenager. In fact, at 34, Brett seems to have it all—a plum job at her family’s multimillion-dollar company and a spacious loft with her irresistibly handsome boyfriend. But when her beloved mother, Elizabeth, passes away, Brett’s world is turned upside down. Rather than simply naming her daughter the new CEO of Bohlinger Cosmetics, Elizabeth’s will comes with one big stipulation: Brett must fulfill the list of childhood dreams she made so long ago.

Story
Award-winning poet Marisa de los Santos crafts an irresistibly touching debut novel. Love Walked In is a contemporary tale, steeped in nostalgic, cinematic charm, of love in all its forms. Unapologetically idealistic about love, Cornelia Brown appears to catch the break of a lifetime when the dashing Martin Grace, her own personal Cary Grant, comes strolling into her life. But it is Martin's connection to 11-year-old Clare Hobbes that touches Cornelia's heart in ways she never imagined.

Story
The words on the page jumbled into a toxic mess my brain refused to comprehend, much less accept. Please consider this letter as a formal request to arrange a paternity test (DNA). I barely remembered Chelsea Airy. That wasn't true - we'd gone out once, and we'd been friends for a while after. But I hadn't heard so much as a peep from her since I'd gotten married. I'd reached out a handful of times, but she'd quit responding and fell off the face of the earth.

Short
If you a Kingbury fan and already read the book, you will miss the rest of the story. There is a enough that it's a good story if you don't have a preconceived notion of the story.

Big fan already!
Loved this book and can't wait to hear the stories of all the other siblings in the other 'R" series by Karen Kingsbury. There are great Christian traits seen in characters, but it isn't preachy. It's enough to make you look at yourself and think of how you could improve. I am downloading the next one today. One complaint would be that the story seemed to wrap up a bit quickly, whereas the rest of the book was more detailed, but still loved it.

Great Story Based on Christian Principles
I'm glad that this is the first book in the series. I want to be with and enjoy this family as they grow and change. I a big fan of Karen Kingsbury, having listened to When Joy Came to Stay, Gideon's Gift and Maggie's Miracle a couple of years ago. This book, Redemption deals with a infidelity in a young couple's marriage in an honest and sensitive way . . . and in a godly way. I appreciated the openness and the courage demonstrated in this fictional story . . . because it is many a Christian couple's REAL story. Infidelity need not destroy a marriage. Kari Jacobs, the young wife who was wise and strong, sought God in her pain. I look forward to the next book in the series, and I am thankful for wholesome, Christian literature that bring real life issues to the forefront.

Good story despite outlandish plot direction
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I really enjoyed this book despite the fact that I thought that the plot was a little outlandish. I really enjoy the Christian characters and perspective. What really attracted me to the series, though, is the story. The story woven throughout the series is enough to get me past any deficiencies in individual books. The female characters are weak. That really bothers me. However, I got a kick out of how God took care of the loser cheating husband. The narration was great except that the narrator's voice does not do men's voices well. That bothered me a little. The bottom line is that I enjoy the stories so much that the little flaws just don't matter.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The Baxter parents were my favorite characters. The younger female characters seem weak. The cheating husband was a total loser.
What three words best describe Sandra Burr’s voice?
Sandra Burr has a great voice. She is a wonderful narrator. Her portrayal of male voices bothers me a little. It would be better to have an actual male voice do those parts.
What would have made this romance irresistible?
If the female characters had more brains and backbone and the writing was more rich and smooth, these would be the best books ever!
Any additional comments?
This was certainly a very short book for the cost.
