Publisher's summary

Someone has to be responsible.

Micky O’Neill and Dan Peters now live in Wales, bringing up Micky’s disabled little brother away from small-minded Heathwood and close to Micky’s deceased mother’s family.

Things are fine...until Dan begins his dream career as an English teacher at the local school and Micky, main caregiver to Flynn, is isolated in a village that only serves to remind him of his mother’s absence.

With Flynn’s health deteriorating and his needs becoming more complex, everything is tested to its limits, and Dan seeks solace in a friendship with a fellow teacher, sending Micky into further turmoil.

After an accusation is leveled against Micky and it seems he’s slipping back into his old ways, he and Dan are torn. To repair the rift, both have to accept responsibility - for life.

A fitting finale

I sometimes wonder how an author can make three full novels about the same couple. With Dan and Micky, I’m not surprised. These two have a bunch of serious stuff going on.

This book finds them living in Wales. Micky’s never lived there, but the lure of being close to his mother’s family holds great appeal. As does getting as far away from his previous life as he can. Especially his deadbeat father. But, in this idyllic and isolated town in Wales, he’s living precariously. Because he’s with Dan, his caregiver funding is about to be revoked. He has no job, no career trajectory, and no real sense of the future. He cares for his brother and adores Dan, but it’s not enough.

Dan is living his dream. He’s working as a teacher, he has the man he loves by his side, and he has Flynn, whom he’s coming to see as his own. When things go sideways, though, he doesn’t know where to turn. His support system is back home and he’s struggling to keep his relationship with Micky going. Add in Flynn’s medical issues and it’s almost too much. I knew the men would stay together in the end, but it was a near thing.

But, it’s a C.F. White romance and she always delivers on the romance. My men got their happily ever after and a cute epilogue to boot. I highly recommend this series. Finally, quick nod to Piers Ryman who did a fantastic job narrating the books. Well done.

Much needed closure!

This series has been so real and relatable.

The author delivers a solid conclusion to this series which neatly ties up all loose ends and gives us much needed closure.

I will admit that this series has been gritty and is depicts adulting at its very close core.

The narrator was great and delivers an emotional and heartfelt audio delivery and narration.

Definitely recommend this entire series.

Great story. Great narration.

I enjoyed the first book. I really enjoyed the second book. This book was almost impossible to put down. Micky and Dan feel like real people dealing with real world problems. Sometimes, I want to cheer them on, sometimes I want to give them a smack upside the head, and most of the time I want to give them a hug and a hot cocoa. Sigh.

This was a read/listen full of tears and emotional tension. The twists and turns keep the reader anticipating the next chapter with a bit of trepidation and a dash of hope. Like the last book, not everything works perfectly, but both Micky and Dan can find strength in each other. The character development is a joy to experience. The descriptions of the settings are so vivid, I am constantly reminded of my small town rural upbringing. The conflicts in this story drive home the reality that we can rarely escape our past , but we can learn from it.

Once again Piers Ryman has done a wonderful job of voicing a broad range of characters with a masterful performance.

I was satisfied with the resolution of this story, but the greedy book lover in me desperately wants more of these characters even if Dan and Micky are just side characters in a new series.

Dan????

Have to say after listening to almost the whole story I’m almost done and I am completely pissed at Dan! What a little wussy! He caused all the drama and Mickey deserves so much better than that! After all Mickey has been through and while taking care of his brother after heart surgery Dan blatantly lies to Mickey and shrugs it off as a “small” thing when busted!! Then turns all this blame on Mickey!! Crazy accusations because Dan is a little bitch. Mickey has never lied to him and then continues to be blamed for things he hasn’t done all because of Dans judgmental big mouth!! Wow!! Am I losing my mind?? He should kick Dan to the curb now with his selfish attitude!! Wow!!! Not sure how it ends but I think Mickey deserves way more than Dan! What a let down Dan is! But Dan continues to act holier than thou while Mickey cries??!!! Hard to listen to. Just really upset with how this book has turned. If both were to blame then I understand but all of this miscommunication and hurt directed at Mickey is Dans fault!! Just wow!!

Enjoyable Series

Reformed is Book 3 in the Responsible Adult series. This book continues Micky, Dan, and Flynn's story one year after their move to Wales. Micky and Dan's relationship is a bumpy one and goes through a lot of growth, but in the end they get their happy ending. I still love them together, and the way they care for Flynn, who is such a fighter and delight. I loved the end and was hoping they weren't going to be alone on their special day. I really enjoyed this book and series, and definitely recommend it.
Narrator Piers Ryman does another fabulous job in the series. He has been wonderful to listen to and really has a way of bringing these characters to life, just perfect.

4.5 Stars

Reformed is everything I had hoped it would be and then some. This book is the third and final book in the Responsible Adult series. It cannot be read as a stand-alone. Much like its predecessors, this story is aptly titled.

Considering how much angst there was in books one and two, you have to expect that this addition to the trilogy will come with its fair share of troubles. That said, even after everything that has happened to this couple, and Micky's younger brother Flynn, none of it has felt forced or thrown in for drama's sake. Sometimes life is just HARD.

I felt like this was the perfect conclusion for their story, and while I hurt with them along the way, I was happy with where they ended up.

Piers Ryman did another fantastic job bringing this story to life. He never fails to capture every emotion the characters are feeling and has you feeling them as well. I cannot recommend him or this author enough.

The Conclusion to Micky and Dan's Love Story

Readers will find this story has greater resonance by first reading Book 1, ‘Misdemeanor’, and Book 2, ‘Hard Time’. The following review contains light spoilers for the series.

Micky and Dan have left England behind for a new start in the Welsh countryside. While Dan settles into his teaching position at the local school, Micy is still plagued with severe self-doubt. He’s not yet entirely able to accept help from those around him, including Dan and his family. Will a visit from best friend Jason finally help him overcome these obstacles and let Micky find his true calling?

Before Dan and Micky can have their happily-ever-after, there’s some late-developing relationship angst to resolve. All is not as expected in Wales, and adjustments are required before the future they envision together can begin. CF White delivers a wonderfully emotional conclusion to the grittily realistic ‘Responsible Adult’ series. White’s characters and story feel so real, I can see myself living down the street from this family.

Once again, the well-written steamy scenes are full of emotion and fit in well with the storyline.

Piers Ryman delivers an excellent performance as narrator. I particularly like his interpretation of Micky’s character.

This audiobook was given to me, free of charge as an ARC, after I made a request for it. My review is completely voluntary and represents my honest opinion.

Highly recommended.

Fantastic conclusion to a wonderful series.

Reformed is the third and final book in the Responsible Adult series and you need to read the first two books before you read it. I loved all of them but Reformed was particularly wonderful and angsty.

Micky, Flynn and Dan are settling in after their move to Wales. Dan has started a new teaching job but Micky is still staying home with Flynn trying to figure out what he wants to do. Things are not always easy going. Micky feels guilty for not working, Flynn’s health isn’t good, and Dan is a bit anxious about his new teaching job.

Going in, I knew this was going to be an angsty book but it hit me harder than I expected. I’ve now read a few series by C F White and have loved each of them in different ways. Responsible Adult is tied with The District Line for my favorite series. All of the things that Micky has to go through are heartbreaking but at the same time uplifting. I love books where one of the MCs is someone who needs redemption and that pretty much describes Micky. He changed his whole life to take care of Flynn and at times was definitely not rewarded for his efforts.

Dan is the perfect partner for Micky; he helps to balance him out and he loves Flynn like he’s his own flesh and blood. When things start to go bad between Dan and Micky both of them are at fault for not communicating with each other. They go through quite a rough patch but Micky really owns up to his issues and becomes a changed man. I can’t say enough good things about this series and this book in particular.

I have really loved listening to this series. Piers Ryman did another superb job with his performance of this book, just as he has with the first two.

A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.
