About this listen

Fallon has had a long and rough couple of years. She's ready now to work on putting the past behind her and focus on putting her life back together. A trip to see her best friend to hang out and create some new happy memories seems just the way to start off her new life. However, the first person she meets is Reid Snow, who threatens her peace of mind. Fallon does everything to resist his bad boy charm. The last thing she needs is someone else bringing drama into her life. But, when tragedy strikes Reid is the one who she turns to.

Reid Snow has gone from an unknown to a well-known. He never had a problem in the female department until he's taken in by a gold digger who is after more than just his good looks. Before becoming a well-known actor, women always wanted him for himself. Determined not to be suckered again, he finds himself extremely attracted to his the best friend of his best friend's sister. The only problem is, he's not interested in anything more than casual hook-ups. But, even if Fallon would give him the time of day, which she doesn't seem inclined to do, starting something with her could jeopardize his friendship with his best friend.

Sometimes Love Happens When You Least Expect It

I loved this sweet and heartbreaking story about Fallon who’s entire world is thrown into turmoil, when her father who has been the one unshakable foundation in her life, succumbs to cancer. Fallon is such a private person that she prefers to be left alone in her grief. Her private grieving comes to an abrupt end when playboy and rising star Reid Snow unceremoniously enters her life.

It’s fascinating to see the very public Reid worm his way into becoming a crucial part of Fallon’s very private life and the sacrifices he’s willing to make when he truly falls in love for the first time in his life.

The audio quality of this book was above average but not perfect, the narrator Jaime Lamchick, on the other hand, was the perfect fit for this 7+ hour production.

The author's note at the end was touching.

Seasons

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would definitely recommend this book to a friend. I find the author's writing style to be very engaging. The depth of the characters personalities make them very relatable.

What other book might you compare Reluctant to and why?

I would compare the book Alexander Ranch, because it is written by the same author. Her writing style is very incomparable to another. She engages and connects you to the characters depicted in her novels.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

In the introduction where the main character, Fallon is dealing with the emotional loss of her father is so well written. Her emotions are so raw and real, that you can feel how she is feeling. You can see yourself in her shoes, right in the beginning you connect with her.

Reluctant

Marla Josephs has done it again! I just loved watching Fallon and Reid slowly get close to one another. It’s nice to see a relationship grow at a slower pace instead of the insta love you get lost times. So glad to see a happy ending after what Fallon had to go through and see the support that she received from all her loved ones. I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series.

A beautiful romance

--I was given this audiobook in return for an honest review.

I loved this book. A sweet romance, real life situations and good friends. The circumstance of Reid and Fallon's initial meeting just makes you laugh...and think of Reid as a total Playboy. But as the story unfolds and you find the depth of the man, the sadness Fallon carries, the way their relationship evolves, you can't help but love them both. I was extremely impressed with way Reid dealt with Fallon's scare, standing by her side through thick and thin. This book had some meat to it, making it not a fluffy romance, creating an enjoyable listen.

The narrator, Jamie Lamchick, did an outstanding job. This was the first book I have heard her do and she made the characters real and believable.

Beautifully written

This is the story of Reed. A Hollywood super star and Fallen a quite private woman who just suffered the loss of her father.

Reed is so sweet and so determined to win her over even though he has no idea what he will do with her when he does.

Fallen after is determined to stay as fas away from Reed as possible but soon that determination turns to reluctant as her feelings grow stronger then her will.

I love the story, Fallen is strong and independent, Reed is a drop dead gorgeous gentleman and I Ioved the Conner family.

Martha Josephs is an amazing writer with depth in both her characters and her story line.

The authors note at the end stopped me in tracks. No spoilers but I will say after hearing it the book came even more to life.

Good story

Marla Josephs has written a good story here. At first I was not sure that I liked the hero, but he grows on you. I thought Jaime Lamchick did a good job with the narration. Well worth the listen.

Sweet story!

I love a story where I can laugh as well as cry and this story did it for me. The characters are real and Jaime Lamchick did a great job as narrator. Will look for other books written by Maria Josephs and also others that are narrated by Jaime Lamchick.

Unforseen Events Bring Childhood Friends Together

Fallon (*eye roll* LOL) has just buried her father. She is all alone in the world except for a distant cousin, whom she rarely sees. It is been a rough couple of years and Fallon has decided to close that chapter of her life and move on.

After the funeral she looks up her best friend and decides to go spend time with her. However, she meets up with Reid Snow-in a VERY compromised position. She has known him all her life but unaware of his success as an actor. When she finds out, she 'Googles' him. She learns of his reputation – the accomplished actor on the big screen changes women like he does underwear!

She wants nothing to do with him or his life. He wants to reconnect. Follow their story from this point on…

Jamie Lamchick, the narrator, was very good. She was able to do several things that would be beyond the scope of the average performer and did them well.

*This book was given to me as a gift. *I agreed to listen to it and write a review, in exchange. I really enjoyed it. This is the reason that I agree to listening to book in exchange for review. I'm exposed to new authors and narrators. I have never heard of this author before and I'm so glad to know that she exists. I will look for her work in the future .

reluctant indeed

It starts with a sad chapter, I had tears in my eyes and I identified with Fallon in regards with those who cry for somebody when gone, but couldn't care less while alive. She is a really strong character, I like that. So when Reid comes on the scene I wanted to smack him for being such a jerk. He wore Fallon down and me along the way. As the story unfolds I got to know both of them, they are so perfect for each other, their chemistry meshes quite well and the best part, they heal each other. Loved Shelton, he reminds me of one of my cousin who I grew up with and had a similar relationship. The personal note from Ms. Jospephs at the end made this story even more lovable. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Ms. Lamchick has an enjoyable voice and a good choice for Fallon's character, not so much on the male characters though, although it was a plus that they were differentiated well.
