About this listen

How do art and faith intersect? How does art help us see our own lives more clearly? What can we understand about God and humanity by looking at the lives of artists?

Striving for beauty, art also reveals what is broken. It presents us with the tremendous struggles and longings common to the human experience. And it says a lot about our Creator too. Great works of art can speak to the soul in a unique way.

Rembrandt Is in the Wind is an invitation to discover some of the world's most celebrated artists and works and how each of them illuminates something about God, people, and the purpose of life. Part art history, part biblical study, part philosophy, and part analysis of the human experience, this book is nonetheless all story.

From Michelangelo to Vincent van Gogh to Edward Hopper, the lives of the artists in this book illustrate the struggle of living in this world and point to the beauty of the redemption available to us in Christ. Each story is different. Some conclude with resounding triumph while others end in struggle. But all of them raise important questions about humanity's hunger and capacity for glory, and all of them teach us to love and see beauty.

"The artists featured in these pages—artists who devoted their lives and work to what is good, true, and beautiful—remind us that we can, and should, do the same." —Karen Swallow Prior, author of On Reading Well

Captivating and Profound

I was amazed by the beauty and wisdom of this book. It draws one into the central questions of Ecclesiastes, while immersing the reader in the complex lives of the artists it describes. The hardest thing about this book was putting it down. 😄

Keep creating, because our God is the consummate Creator

I enjoyed hearing about the spiritual connections that were evident within the artists and the subsequent work that was created

For Every Christian

This book is amazing! Practical and picturesque, divine and worldly, holy and hard are juxtaposed throughout and allow for art and artist to be more than their work, but an expression of The Artist and His creation and how art seeks to make meaning of it. This will definitely be a re-read for me!

Beautiful

There is a particular beauty in the stories of these artists, the descriptions of their work, the piece of ourselves that they touch and the role they play in the story of God. I recommend for anyone that loves art, life or God.

So thoughtful.

Ramsey skillfully explores his passion for art with the heart of a pastor. Familiar artists are brought to life I with thoughtful stories of their skills and flaws. Engrossing snd edifying.

Beauty Breaks One’s Heart

I just finished this book and want to listen again. Each chapter, dare I say portrait, of an artist, and their works is thrilling, enlightening, entertaining. I am so grateful to have listened to it. It was a joy.

My heart skipped many beats during this great listen

I really don’t know where to start, except to say that I don’t know if I’ve ever been more touched by a book as I have by this one. I never had much interest in the famous artist of the years and centuries gone by, but this book has not only piqued my interest, but fed me some delicious bites of information on these amazing people!
I can’t recommend this book highly enough! Thank you Russ for your love of art, and your devotion to our Savior. Jesus Christ! Bless you!

Fantastic Audio Book

This book is amazing. The stories, the reader and the flow of the writer (audio) is one of the best books on audio I have listened too in some time. Excellent resource and much needed for those interested in any form of art.
