Irresistibly snarky, fantastic narration

This is the second novel in Sarah Noffke’s Ren series, which is part of her Dream Traveler universe. The main character, Ren, is a classic antihero: arrogant, frequently cruel, and vindictive. I normally dislike stories about antiheroes, but Ren is smart and irresistibly snarky, with just enough love and loyalty for those he cares about to give him a shot at redemption. It’s a compelling combination.

The plot was ok, but what kept me listening was the characterization and the humorous dialog. The women in Ren’s life offer him plenty of surprises. I would classify this series as a paranormal crime story and recommend it for people who enjoy character-driven urban fantasy.

I was captivated by Tim Campbell’s narration. His pacing is good and I enjoy all of his character voices. The voice and British accent he uses for Ren is perfect for Ren’s snarky comments, and probably made the story more enjoyable for me than if I had read it myself. I definitely recommend the audiobook.

I was given a free copy of this audiobook by the author and volunteered to provide an honest review.

Ren is back to save the world...maybe

Ren is back to save the world, or at least little old ladies from breaking a hip. Ren is the same ole Ren he has always been and doing what others only dream of meaning saying whatever to whoever. But Ren may have meet his snarky verbal match when he meets a stranger in LA. Sparks and snark fly when these two go toe to tow. The verbal vollies would be enough to keep you interested, but Sarah Noffke doesn’t disappoint with the who, where, how...and cool tech (sorry Ren 😆).

Tim Campbell does a wonderful job bringing Ren to life and does a gret job of giving Ren a voice that sounds arrogant and snarky. Being able to deliver an appropriate tone for arrogance and the propr inflection for snark can be difficult for some, but Tim delivers it beautifully.

Brilliant book

This story gripped me from the very beginning, by the first page I was once again captivated by Ren Lewis. His dry, sarcastic humour and unique view of the world immediately brings a smile to your face while at the same time his opinion of himself pulls at your heartstrings. His sarcasm and arrogance is the protective film he puts around himself to try to keep others at bay, it's his way of protecting them from the monster he considers himself to be. In this second book of the series, even more cracks are appearing in Ren's "protective film," as both new and old characters work their way into his life and heart. Ren is flawed in all the right ways, you cheer him on, bleed for him, and hope for the best for him in the end. Seeing characters from some of the authors other series in this book added depth and intricacy to the Dream Traveller world as a whole. This mixing of the different characters meshes the different timelines in the various series to give you a sense of continuity and the passage of time. It is a complex, fascinating world that keeps you captivated and once you enter it you don't want to leave.
This is an exciting, funny and suspenseful book, with very well developed characters and a fast paced, innovative storyline. The narration of the audiobook is excellent. The perfect British accent, the nuances and the deep, sexy baritone of Tim Campbell's voice portrays Ren perfectly. Ren is his beautiful, sarcastic, caustic self and you can not help but love and hurt for him. His character bleeds with hidden need but his intelligence and arrogance mask it well. I love the new (and old) characters in this book and the intriguing villain is shaping up to be the authors best to date. The surprises, suspense, humour, and emotions, coupled with the excellent narration, makes this book difficult to put down and the bombshell at the end is defiantly going to be problematic! I can not wait to see where this story goes next.

From Like to Love with this series

By Sarah Noffke
Narrated Tim Campbell

So Book Two of this series picks up three months after the last. Ren has returned to his former employee but only as an agent. He spends the book berating the guy who has his old job, insulting those who are trying to help him, and tricking those who aren't afraid of him. If you can believe it, he actually ramps up his antics from book one.

This sequel moves me from liking to loving this series. The author throws an unexpected wrench into the life of our anti-hero. The overrall story becomes more complicated and we get some additional information on how dreamwalking works.

And best of all, trouble finds our potty-mouthed protagonist. Ren has love life troubles, health troubles, family troubles, and job troubles... and apparently anger management troubles.

The introduction of the new main character really gives the story more substance and actually makes Ren more interesting. His imperfections are brought to light and he realizes that he must change in order to survive.

This one ends in a major cliffhanger. I was shocked into laughter and immediately jumped into the next book.

As an American, I find it hilarious how much the English seem to be annoyed by us. At least this character, but I've heard it before in other books by Europeans.

The narration is done well and Tim Campbell is a good fit.

4 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟. Great book. I've become friends with the characters. This is for my top Tier books. The story is deep with many layers. I probably finished it in a day. I'll likely reread this one when I miss the characters or need a pick me up.

So Funny!

I really enjoyed this book. When Ren gets an unexpected visitor, his life changes for good. She changes his world and makes him a different person. What I loved most about this was how mean Ren is to everyone! It’s so freaking hilarious!
There is also a new powerful villain and I can’t wait to see what she does!

Suspense, snark and bundles of joy…

This was positively addictive. I laughed, became caught up in the case and adore the new character introduced. The dynamics changed, and it introduced another side of Ren. Psst.. don’t tell the fool that. He tries so hard to feign disinterest in everyone but himself.

Tim Campbell is perfect as the narration. He is Ren and captures our charmingly narcissistic hero wonderfully. All the characters are flawed and yet I cannot help but find them charming in their own unique way.

At just around six hours the cases Ren tackles for the Lucidites and the overall arc development of the series are nicely paced and positively addictive.

Better than the first

Though I liked the first one too, this one was so much better! Had a lot more to the story to keep me interested, and I actually didn’t realize how close to the end I was until I hit the epilogue. Great listen, and loved the narrator.
