About this listen

Thrust back in time to 16th-century Scotland, Anna finds herself embroiled in a vicious witch hunt and growing attraction for Laird Donal....

Anna Clarke has never had any problem defending herself, but her martial arts expertise can’t stop the fae from pulling her from modern times back to a festering state of unrest in the Scottish Highlands around Loch Ness. After being rescued from near-drowning by the handsome and strong Laird Donal Grant, Anna is forced to accept that magic and time travel are real, as are her attraction and affection for the Scotsman.

Laird Donal Grant struggles against a mounting distrust for the old ways. When Anna appears from the future, he’s captivated by her but also refuses to acknowledge her combat skills or accept her as an equal in that regard.

With the threat from the witch hunters looming and the fae increasingly concerned about losing their connection to the clan, Donal and Anna must come together to defend a way of life one loves and the other is only beginning to understand.

Story was ok, not so much narration

The story was ok, not really a page turner, but not bad. It just could use more depth.

The narrator was erratic throughout the whole book. And she was extremely stilted in the narration of the hero. Many words were mispronounced drastically making you stop and think about what she was trying to say. I stuck through for the story, but I won't listen to another with this narrator and rather annoyed I used a credit on a story that was so difficult to listen to. I also sped it up to 1.7x as that seemed to be the best listening.

This narrator is terrible!!!!

I have listened to hundreds of Audible books and this is the worst narrator I have had the displeasure of listening to. I don’t know which is worse—her halting delivery or her frequent mispronunciation of standard words. I don’t care about names—it’s common word such as “lifeless”, “gravitas”, etc. She makes a major pronunciation error every few chapters. The errors are so jarring and obvious that I get distracted from the story. The narration has truly ruined the book for me. WHY WHY WHY doesn’t the author read these reviews and get another narrator for her books?????

Does anyone edit these?

The narrator frequently mispronounced words, skipped words or use the wrong words. This made me wonder if anyone edits the performance and I found it very distracting. She apparently can't pronounce "similarly " and a few other words...

story teller

The person reading this had such a boring way of telling it I'm tempted to stop listening. The only reason I continued was because of the story. Just don't know how much longer I can stand to listen to this person.

Terrible narration

Almost returned this book several times due to the numerous mis-pronouncement of American verb and adjectives. When the story has as much first person who is American, the narrator should either be American or at least have an editor who could correct the problems. I counted at least 20 of these annoyingly mispronounced words. Story was interesting, otherwise, but not worth a credit.

Give it time..

I thought the story was about the Highlands, but it started in a whole different place, and I was confused. However, give it time! It does take a wonderful twist and draws the reader right into 16th century Scotland. I loved the story, loved the characters, just was not wild about the narration, which seemed a bit halted and hesitant.

Excitingly Engrossing

Wonderfully engrossing story. Better read than audio listen. narration was difficult to listen to with the many mispronounced words. For example, traditional pronunciation of the Scottish Hero, Donal, is actually DONul, not donELL as the narrator chose, among many other mispronunciations. Also, I felt that the author wrote the heroin to be bold and decisive. Choosing an overall hesitant tone for her felt contradictory to the character. The story was exciting from beginning to end. I look forward to the rest of the series.
