About this listen
An inspiring and unforgettable memoir that provides hope to others who are experiencing depression, mania, or psychosis, RESILIENT is a deeply personal account about life with mental illness, hearing loss and resiliency. Liz's journey provides encouragement for patients, families, friends, and healthcare workers by showing that recovery is possible.
At seventeen, Liz's world collapses into a place of depression, psychosis, and a revolving hospital door. She is overcome with grief and a loss of reality. Despite this, she gets to university, only for bipolar disorder (later diagnosed as schizoaffective disorder) to return to threaten all that she has worked towards.
Written to encourage empathy in those without lived experience, Liz effectively shares her emotional rollercoaster of going deaf and losing her mind, giving the listener the gift of insight she needed then, and others need now. Experience the triumphs and tribulations of surviving the world of mental illness from the view of a healthcare professional.
Listen and share this book with others to help fight the stigma of mental illness.
Content warning: This book contains content related to suicide, suicidal ideation, self-harm, and restraints
Liz Grace is an occupational therapist and first-time author who is in recovery from schizoaffective disorder. At age sixteen, she gradually lost her hearing and learned American Sign Language (ASL). At twenty-six she received surgery for cochlear implants.

Story
Talking about death and dying is considered taboo in polite company, and even in the medical field. Our ideas about dying are confusing at best: Will our memories flash before our eyes? Regrets consume our thoughts? Does a bright light appear at the end of a tunnel? For most people, it will be a slower process, one eased with preparedness, good humor, and a bit of faith. At the forefront of changing attitudes around palliative care is hospice nurse Hadley Vlahos, who shows that end-of-life care can teach us just as much about how to live as it does about how we die.

Nothing Is Missing is a “sparkling and impassioned story” (Glamour) of what it takes to show up for yourself—and the joy that can come once you do. Raised in a home where food was unstable and anger was the norm, Nicole learned that she needed to take charge of her own safety and security. So she did: She got into an elite private school by talking to a stranger in her dad’s cab, she strategized her way onto Wheel of Fortune to pay for college, she adopted three girls after meeting their mother panhandling, she quit her job to launch her own business, and she struggled.

Story
It took me a lifetime to have the courage and the clarity to write my memoir. I want to tell the story of the moments - the ups and downs, the triumphs and traumas, the debacles and the dreams - that contributed to the person I am today. This book is composed of my memories, my mishaps, my struggles, my survival, and my songs. Unfiltered. I went deep into my childhood and gave the scared little girl inside of me a big voice. I let the abandoned and ambitious adolescent have her say, and the betrayed and triumphant woman I became tell her side.

Thank you, Liz, for your courage to share your beautiful story and help others......
I didn't dislike any single moment. In fact, I found myself upset to go to work or do chores because I wanted to stay connected with Liz in her journey, without interruption. It is brilliantly written and narrated. Such personal and sensitive details really gave me a glimpse of what my 34 year old son might experience. He's been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type at the onset of symptoms when he was in high school. And even though since the beginning as his advocate, immersing myself into reading all I could, attending many support groups....this Audible book truly brought me more insight and I am very thankful for that. Thank you, Liz.
