About this listen
A “captivating and engaging” (Booklist) memoir by Nicole Walters, the daughter of Ghanaian immigrants who became a self-made multi-millionaire by showing others how to recognize their own strengths—and her own harrowing journey to the discover that she was worthy all along of the life of her dreams.
Nothing Is Missing is a “sparkling and impassioned story” (Glamour) of what it takes to show up for yourself—and the joy that can come once you do. Raised in a home where food was unstable and anger was the norm, Nicole learned that she needed to take charge of her own safety and security. So she did: She got into an elite private school by talking to a stranger in her dad’s cab, she strategized her way onto Wheel of Fortune to pay for college, she adopted three girls after meeting their mother panhandling, she quit her job to launch her own business, and she struggled.
Hustling endlessly to try to achieve society’s definition of success left her exhausted, compromising her own sense of worth in order to accommodate others. Nicole worked herself straight into a health crisis that threatened her life and the family she had worked so hard to build. It was not until she was forced into a major reckoning in both her business and her marriage that Nicole realized that she was already enough, that she had and was everything that she needed. In Nothing Is Missing, Nicole contemplates how she was able to create the life she wanted using the strength she had within herself all along.

We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

In America, we teach that strength means holding back tears and shaming your own feelings. In the Black community, these pressures are especially poignant. Poor mental health outcomes-- including diagnoses of depression and anxiety, reliance on prescription drugs, and suicide–have skyrocketed in the past decade. In this book, actor Courtney B. Vance seeks to change this trajectory. Along with professional expertise from famed psychologist Dr. Robin L. Smith, Courtney B. Vance explores issues of grief, relationships, identity, and race through the telling of his own most formative experiences

I had high expectations but this exceeded them by far
This memoir was amazing way better than I expected Nicole told her truth and gave hope and showed her unwavering faith. This book couldn’t have came at a better time for me. Nicole gave us an insight to what’s been going on in her life and how her childhood shaped her into the amazing person she is today. I can’t wait for the next one with Oprah story’s after they meet.

For real…Nothing is missing✨
I recommend this book for all humans. Nicole’s vulnerability in sharing her story is exceptional. Through her many challenges we experience a range of emotions and realize that regardless of who we are, life happens. However, it all works for our good because nothing is missing.

So moving
It’s hit and miss with memoirs….this one was a grand slam. This book hit me in the heart and pulled out some deep emotions. Thank you Nicole Walter’s for being so open and for giving the mentoring I needed at my mid life. You showed me that nothing is missing and I need to get after it and stop waiting for something to save me. This was so well written and a great book to listen to.

Her growth
Loved her transparency and how she allowed the reader to feel an experience those moments with her. I wish the book could have been longer and took us to present day but it was so motivating.
