About this listen

From USA Today best-selling author Sky Corgan comes a new adult contemporary romance.

Caleb Ryan was the only man I ever loved. The only guy who even acknowledged my existence when we were going to high school together. But then he betrayed me....

I spent years trying to get over what he'd done to me, honing my hatred until it was knife sharp. Now I finally have a chance to exact revenge. He won't even see it coming. I plan to get rid of him no matter what it takes.

The only problem is I need him to achieve another goal. Whether I like it or not, we're going to have to work together. But I still plan to make him pay.

This is book one of the Revenge Games Duet. This is a sweet romantic comedy between a quirky girl, a ripped personal trainer, and a sexy billionaire. There is no cheating, and a happy-for-now ending is guaranteed.

Fun Story!

Fun storyline. However, the quick turnaround Peter made was a little unbelievable. I really like Caleb. The narration was great! I was a little hesitant about having a male narrator the entire story, but I was proven wrong. The narration was actually done well. I will need to read the next book to see what happens next because I do question the new relationship formed at the end of the book!

mixed feelings

I really wanted to like Willow but she just irritated me. She is petty, shallow and self-centred, I couldn't believe she gave Caleb those cookies knowing full well they could kill him, along with all the other stuff she does. Then Caleb goes along with her machinations, the why is not revealed and at the end Peter's about-face is quite unexpected. I feel sorry for Caleb, it almost felt like he was falling in love with Willow.
Not sure what is the message in this story.
The cover is not reflective of the story AT ALL.

My first listen from Mr. Hoyt and I enjoyed listening to his various voices which he switched easily. He modulates his voice to fit the mood and each character. Will be looking for more of his audios.

Good story.

This is a well written book! But you need to read / listen to BOTH books to get to the HEA! I really did not understand what was meant by the term New Adult Romance until I listened and read this set of books. To me the author embodies this concept in not only her characters ages but their level of emotional maturity. This storyline tackles some difficult subjects and how they can impact the characters lives for many years. This book is a very engaging emotional read. I chose because of the audio option, the narrator breathed life in her characters personalities.

Interesting

Any additional comments?

This audiobook was given to me for a honest unbiased review. This was interesting. I love the whole ugly duckling turned swan, concept, however the book would have been better had she remained beautiful on the inside. She turns bitter and shallow. Trying to kill someone who hurt your feelings is childish. Hopefully book 2 will be better.

Not what I was expecting

This isn't the kind of book I expect from Sky Corgan, it's possible that book 2 resolves what I didn't like about this book but I'm unlikely to read book 2.

I really didn't like Willow, the blurb described her as quirky but I thought of her as a bit deranged. Her emotions are all over the shop and so do her moods, there doesn't seem to be any middle ground with her. Her logic is also massively lacking, she can't tell that someone isn't interested in her 'perpetual optimism' comes across as delusional. Her reasons behind choosing Peter as her love interest is cold and show her as a shallow person and her decision to change herself into what he wants is short sighted and stupid.

I like Caleb, he comes across as a genuinely nice person who's just trying to help Willow out to make up for unintentionally hurting her feelings years ago. Although why he continues putting up with her escapes me, she's either mean or using him.

Peter just comes across as an oblivious arse, I do not see what Willow see's in him and the way he treats people is pretty awful.

The writing is the only redeeming part of the story, it is well written I just really didn't like the characters or plot.

The narrator did a good job, the character voices are well done and the delivery is well paced.

Good Listen

Willow sees the man she wants and is determined to get him by using the person who hurt her in high school to make it happen. This book is funny and sometimes you just want to smack Willow because she is clueless. I love the narrator, he made it seem real. I received this audio book free for an honest review.

Decent listen, but overall message bothered me

This wasn't a bad story, per se, but I couldn't get over how immature of a character Willow was and how this book portrayed the message that it's acceptable to change yourself to please a man. Willow, as the book description and other reviews mention, has had a pretty tough life. She was unpopular and had/has major self esteem issues carried over from those days. Perhaps that's where her immaturity comes into play, but I just had a difficult time taking her seriously with basically anything having to do with her crush Peter. I get that she doesn't have any experience in the love department after her new neighbor and former high school crush Caleb broke her heart years ago, but she acts quite literally like a teenage girl when it comes to Peter.

The other thing that really made me sad was how much she and Caleb were all on board with regards to making major changes to Willow to make her "perfect" for Peter-i.e. She changed herself and her interests to match his to try to get him to notice her. I guess in today's day and age, I just don't really agree with that message, though with Willow's upbringing, I can understand why she may feel that changing to please others is a positive thing. Also, not to give anything away, Peter's reaction at the end of the book was really surprising and seemingly out of left field compared to the entire rest of the book, though I'm sure that whole thing will be explored in detail in the second book in the series!

Arthur Hoyt did a good job with the narration, though I will say that I was really surprised that this book had a male narrator, as the main character is female. It bugged me a little at first but I quickly got used to it and Mr. Hoyt did a good job with the various characters. I would have no problem listening to another one of his performances.

All in all, I was a little unsure of how to rate this audiobook. The story, although there were various aspects that I didn't love, was still enjoyable enough to listen to and I did want to finish it, if nothing else, to see what would happen with poor Willow. Caleb, her neighbor and former crush, was my favorite character by far, though why he went along with all of her ridiculousness, I'll never fully understand. If you're a fan of Sky Corgan, I'm absolutely sure that you'll enjoy this book! I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

The Revenge of the Unpopular Kid

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

If you always root for the underdog, this is the story for you. It's the much loved story of the ugly duckling turned into a beautiful swan, and her success in obtaining love and adulation. All that however doesn't come easy or without a price to pay. With the ever present drama in her quest for what she thinks is the unobtainable perfect man, Willow is eventually rewarded for her doggedness and gets her prize but... I think part 2 in this duet series might have a different outcome. However that is only my gut feeling as I have not listened yet to it.
The performance was good and the story line a little predictable, but sweet just the same. My favorite character however was Caleb the lost friend who came back to Willow's rescue.
Hopefully he'll find his happy ending on the next book.

Started out funny but for me it just went downhill

Willow is described as quirky but she is just mean and selfish. Her relationship with Caleb is based on him doing what she tells him to do. Her obsession with Peter is just that, obsession. She hardly knows the guy but she plans to marry him on sight. The twist at the end is not believable at all. This book started out funny but as I continued to listen it got ridiculous.
