Publisher's summary

The Stormlight Archive saga continues in Rhythm of War, the sensational fourth book in Brandon Sanderson's #1 New York Times bestselling series.

After forming a coalition of human resistance against the enemy invasion, Dalinar Kholin and his Knights Radiant have spent a year fighting a protracted, brutal war. Neither side has gained an advantage, and the threat of a betrayal by Dalinar's crafty ally Taravangian looms over every strategic move.

Now, as new technological discoveries by Navani Kholin's scholars begin to change the face of the war, the enemy prepares a bold and dangerous operation. The arms race that follows will challenge the very core of the Radiant ideals, and potentially reveal the secrets of the ancient tower that was once the heart of their strength.

At the same time that Kaladin Stormblessed must come to grips with his changing role within the Knights Radiant, his Windrunners face their own problem: As more and more deadly enemy Fused awaken to wage war, no more honorspren are willing to bond with humans to increase the number of Radiants. Adolin and Shallan must lead the coalition's envoy to the honorspren stronghold of Lasting Integrity and either convince the spren to join the cause against the evil god Odium, or personally face the storm of failure.

Truly epic

Didnt think it was possible, the best series keeps getting better and better.

Diving deep into the character mental states with excellent execution and some of the most realistic depictions of depression and mental illness i've read.

10/10

Enjoyable

Like: overall a good and interesting addition to the series.
Dislike: too much filler and padding in the narrative. Too many times there are large parts of dialog and then the word “regardless”.

This is what fantasy should be

This book takes you on a journey, characters are deep and develop over time, they are flawed and you feelfor them.
It’s a rich tale, with laughs, cheers and tears!

Fantastic listen

Such a great series, looking forward to the next one. In this book I found I really started enjoying the other characters more and more. Very well rounded book.

Not enough Rhythm

unlike the previous books, despite being informative, this book didn't have much rhythm and excitement that made you want to continue to the next chapter.
It was still good, but it is not as good as the previous ones.

As Always

This was another truly amazing addition to The Stormlight Archive. I have laughed cried and felt many other emotions in the time spent reading this. And now I wait for the next book, to continue this wonderful story.

Got good by the end, like the previous ones

I have given up on reading Stormlight Books after the first one. Even listening to it I usually hit a point of fatigue around halfway through. This one was no exception. I love Venli and Eshonai as characters, but their backstories add nothing to the narrative. There is only so much padding that my tiktok softened brain can endure.

All that said, this one had best twists, coolest moments, most fun new characters and most consistent themes of all the books. Representation is also subtly ramped in this one, which I appreciate. Worth listening if you've been keeping up.

Same verdict as always; a masterpiece in bloat.

Another Perfect addition.

Once again Brandon Sanderson has woven a complex and compelling story.
The latest installment to The Stormlight Archive is absolutely fantastic.
Everyone has kind of split up and is doing their own thing, yet Sanderson still manages to make everything they are all doing feel relevant and integral to the plot moving forward.
The different characters are all dealing with their own things and each time a chapter ends you wish you could spend more time with them to find out what is going to happen. But then you are immediately drawn in to the new story line and wanting to follow that one.
There was a few times where I think things were beginning to drag, but then you realize it was all stuff you needed and didn't know you wanted.
This is hands down the best modern fantasy series, and with only 1 book left I am going to miss every one of these characters moving on to the final 5 books to the series.
Personal preference makes me wish that the story will continue with these characters instead of moving to a different story / arc because I really enjoy the first 3 Mistborn books but I just can't not get into the following 3 books.
The story and setting changes in such a jarring way and i just don't like the new characters and setting. I only hope this is not the case when The Stormlight Archive moves on to the next 5 book phase.
I really hope Brandon has learned from Mistborn and either sticks to the stormlightning in a bottle he has created, just like with the characters from the first 3 Mistborn books and keeps the Stormlight characters he has already created.

If you are reading this series then no doubt you will love this book. if you haven't then I suggest you begin from The Way of Kings and enjoy the ride (or in this case, the lashings through the storm)
