About this listen

An unforgettable story of a devastating accident that ends the career of an Olympic contender equestrienne and sets off a chain of events that comes to a crisis point nearly 20 years later.

As a world-class equestrian and Olympic contender, Annemarie Zimmer lived for the thrill of flight atop a strong, graceful animal. Then, at 18, a tragic accident destroyed her riding career and Harry, the beautiful horse she cherished.

Now, 20 years later, Annemarie is coming home to her dying father’s New Hampshire horse farm. Jobless and abandoned, she is bringing her troubled teenage daughter to this place of pain and memory, where ghosts of an unresolved youth still haunt the fields and stables - and where hope lives in the eyes of the handsome, gentle veterinarian Annemarie loved as a girl...and in the seductive allure of a trainer with a magic touch.

But everything will change yet again with one glimpse of a white striped gelding startlingly similar to the one Annemarie lost in another lifetime. And an obsession is born that could shatter her fragile world.

Love the book but what’s with the random music?

I read this book in high school and as an equestrian I loved it. Listening to it again as a 28 year old I still love the story and the narrator’s accents are on point. I personally thought the narrator was good but she does definitely drive the main characters mood swings and behavior to a point. I get she is going through it but jeez she made a mess of things. My thing in the narration is what is the random music? Why is that in there?

I didn’t know a 35yr olds sound 60

I read this book originally in 2004, freshman in high school at an equestrian school, and again in my 30s. Loved this book.

Who the f was this narrater? Her accents are incredible, specially for her older parents, and John Claude, even the pastor. But to portray a mid 30s character, it was very cringey. I had a really hard time getting through the entire thing.

Horrible

I’m not sure which is worse the story or the narrator. I’m not finished but the character has no redeeming qualities but I am wondering if I dislike her or the voice that is hers in this narration. The only redeeming quality is the accents used for the other characters…those were good.
