About this listen

From New York Times bestselling author Catherine Ryan Hyde comes a bittersweet novel about healing old wounds and finding a new place to call home…

Roseanna Chaldecott spent her life as a high-powered lawyer in Manhattan. But when her best friend and law partner dies suddenly, something snaps. Unsure of her future, Roseanna heads upstate on one tank of gas and with no plans to return.

In the foothills of the Adirondacks, Roseanna discovers the perfect hideout in a ramshackle farm. Its seventy-six acres are rich with possibilities and full of surprises, including a mother and daughter squatting on the property. Although company is the last thing Roseanna wants, she reluctantly lets them stay.

Roseanna and the young girl begin sculpting junk found around the farm into zoo animals, drawing more newcomers - including her estranged son, Lance. He pleads with Roseanna to return to the city, but she’s finally discovered where she belongs. It may not provide the solitude she originally sought, but her heart has found room for much more.

Tricked into a feel good novel!

I am not a Hallmark movie watcher. So, I enjoyed the refreshingly bitchy protagonist. Both she and I were caught offguard as we warmed up to the needy folks surrounding her. Another reviewer mentioned a life- changing experience and I can see that. The tribulations were not overplayed. I felt her emotions were realistic in their depiction. it would make a great movie!

I really e noted this book. Being retired I could identify with Rosanna's thought process.

Heartwarming Story

I have enjoyed many of this author's books. This is one of her best. The characters are likeable and well-developed. The plot keeps moving and is easily followed. This is a feel-good book about what is important in life.

food for thought

as the story evolves you realize the importance of the book. don't put it down until the end, and think about it. Especially in two today's Society

Another heart warmer from Catherine Ryan Hyde

I truly believe that the narration made this book better on Audible than if it were held and read. Laurel Merlington used various voices for the different characters thus transforming the story into a wonderful, well acted “play.” It’s not a major work yet it made a very enjoyable listen!

Uplifting, yet entertaining story

After reading “Stay”, which was so good, I listened to Heaven Adjacent. Another great read/listen. Not sappy, as main character has an attitude that readers enjoy. Like chatting with a friend throughout the story.

Love this author!

I have read 3 of Catherine Ryan Hyde's books and fell in love with each one. This author has a way of getting into the most ordinary life and showing how extraordinary it really is.

The main character, as well as most of the other characters, is so dimensional and complex that I have a clear picture of her in my head. I would recognize her if she called me on the phone.

Rosanna has found her forever home and no one from her other life can understand why or how she could possibly love the life or place she has fallen into. When her son, Lance, comes to convince her to go home, their strained relationship is explored. Everyone from the dog to the squatters become important and most, not all, I came to adore.
