Publisher's summary

When two operatives go dark in Tampa, chasing the trail of an oligarch with ties to the demonic underworld, Vigilant Lock - the nation’s first and last line of defense against occult attack - sends their best to the rescue: Harmony Black, a troubled investigator and an elemental witch with a keen but tangled mind; and her partner Jessie Temple, the daughter of a supernatural slasher and the inheritor of her father’s powers.

The trail of clues leads them to the doorstep of Judah Cranston, a wealthy scientist with dark secrets and a darker agenda. Toss in an alluring marine biologist with eyes for Harmony, and a pair of demon-blooded troubleshooters on a hunt of their own, and Tampa Bay is heating up fast. As the mission takes Harmony and Jessie from the sun-drenched Florida coast to a gloomy New England fishing town steeped in forgotten history, they find themselves up against a threat far greater - and more otherworldly - than they ever expected.

there’d Better be More!!

this has been such a great series! i wasn’t excited for a new narrator, but she holds her own ok enough. the ending definitely leads you to believe there’s more to come, at least i certainly hope so!

Good book change in narrator tough to swallow

I understand sometimes authors need to change narrators for publishing rights or whatever but this was a big change. The new narrator is good but doesn’t differentiate the characters voices enough for you to tell who is talking sometimes. The book is good though

Love this series!!

Right to the Kill
(Harmony Black #5)
by Craig Schaefer
These books, and the Faust books, just get better and better! This one has spells, demons, gene manipulation, the most hideous mermaid ever, shifter, and more! Never dull with all of these things interacting! I liked this slightly gross, but good, plot! (Blame the grossness on the mermaids!) 😉
Action packed with lead female characters!
Great narration too!

Good read. Schaefer delivers again.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love that Schaefer continues to grow and develop the characters with each book.

Better and Better

It's been a real pleasure to follow Harmony Black as she grows into who she is, saving the world at the same time. We love the stories, the writing style of Schaefer and the narration of Jones. And as always we look forward to more in the series. We're hooked!

good, but

there are some holes I dont like. why are the heads of VL, literal command and control, infiltrating ALONE when they have an army? it was reckless and if it was just for their own emotional payoff, selfish. what the characters do has to change as they develop, and throwing in a lesbian plotline doesnt make up for the fact that the main characters growth feels stunted.

Uhhh Bring back Christina please?

The book as a whole is a huge ok with a dash of exposition all over the place. occasionally you'll have lulls that I feel are meant to be character development but as the story mostly focuses in Harmony and Jessie you don't get a real sense that any other character has anything to contribute to the story as a whole except a few lines thrown their way to remind the audience that they in fact still exist. But for the parts that focus on Harmony and Jessie (minus the threads that are likely left to pull on for later) are kind of flat. They aren't bad, but they are far from engaging and maybe it's just because he hasn't made a book for this series in a while but it truly does feel like he's going a bit all over the place for no reason. Random ish romance threads, hits, possible sexuality flipping, I'm all for it given the right context and build up but so much of this feels so out of left field. Maybe I need to go back and review the older content but either way this is the most, "ok/filler-esque," I've ever felt this series being. But all of that is aside from the narrator change, it honestly just feels really flat. It also makes the lack in new development of the characters stand out that much more. Please make more of these but also please make it better, and BRING.BACK.CHRISTINA!!!!

it was just ok

I was really looking forward to this book picking up where the last one left off (the new anti vigilant lock), but maybe that'll be in the next one. I also was disappointed with the narration, as the accents and speaking voices weren't as good as before
