Publisher's summary
A fallen nobleman. A growing evil. An Investigator running out of time.
The low taverns and backroom gambling dens of Dublin are a long fall for an English nobleman. It is in these environs, however, where the growling evil within Thomas Olocher feels most at home. Each night, his darkness grows as he continues his cascade down toward the ultimate evil.
Can Alderman James, ever seeking redemption for his own dark past, stop Olocher before it's too late?
If you like mystery/thrillers or historical fiction, then you'll enjoy Rise of the Dolocher. The story is fast-paced and captivating, and each chapter will leave you wanting one more.

Story
1828. Robin Swift, orphaned by cholera in Canton, is brought to London by the mysterious Professor Lovell. There, he trains for years in Latin, Ancient Greek, and Chinese, all in preparation for the day he’ll enroll in Oxford University’s prestigious Royal Institute of Translation—also known as Babel. Babel is the world's center for translation and, more importantly, magic. Silver working—the art of manifesting the meaning lost in translation using enchanted silver bars—has made the British unparalleled in power, as its knowledge serves the Empire’s quest for colonization.

Story
Having two of his fingers cut off at an early age hadn't done much to make Xandrith an agreeable fellow. Besides marking him as a pariah and having him shunned by even his own family, it had also hurt. A lot. Being stripped of a few of his fingers and cast out of the Order of Mages had left him bitter and angry, but if there was any consolation to be had it was that he was doing rather well in his new line of work. While perforating people for money might not have been the most noble of callings, it was quite lucrative.

I left there a long time ago, with my skin and sanity barely intact. Now I make my living in the sunlit streets of London. Story
From humble beginnings in rural Tennessee to his heroic death defending the Alamo, frontiersman, adventurer, and politician David Davy Crockett embodies the spirit and ideals of the national character. Even during his lifetime, tales of the sharpshooting, skilled woodsman were - to his delight - told, retold, and elaborated on. As a US congressman, the former Creek War militiaman steadfastly opposed President Andrew Jackson's Indian Removal Act.

In the post-apocalyptic, neo-medieval city of Ark, speech is constrained to 500 sanctioned words. If somewhere were to speak outside that approved lexicon, they'd face banishment. The only exceptions to this rule are the Wordsmith and his apprentice, Letta. Together, they are the keepers and archivists of all language. But when Letta's master dies, she is suddenly promoted to Wordsmith and finds the situation more complicated than she knew.

Good Listen
An easy listen, well thought out. Nicely read with insightful character development. Nice listening pleasure. I had previously read the Kindle version, so the audio was a nice rendition of the book. The narrating was okay. Worth putting on your reading/listening list.

Thomas Olocher's origin story
The origin story of Thomas Olocher and his killing spree. Having read The Dolcher, I had to find out more about Thomas Olocher, who played a part in the legend of the Dolcher yet played a small part in that story. In Rise of the Dolcher not only is he the main character, but the reader is also taken on a biographical journey of his travels and his experiences that created this violent monster. Having previously read this story, when I got a chance to listen to a review copy of the audiobook version through the author and StoryOrigin I jumped at the chance. Vivienne Wright’s narration really brought this story to life.

Well-written, entertaining read
Rise of the Dolocher (The Alderman James Mystery Thriller Series), my eighth read from author European P. Douglas. A well-written, entertaining read, with intriguing, well-developed characters that I read in a single setting.2-hours 14-minutes/134-pages. Having read The Dolocher: The Alderman James Mystery Thriller Series, Book 1 back in July I was excited to read there was maore about the Dolocher. Vivienne Wright's narration made a good book's enjoyment even more enjoyable. “I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Its okay
Man loses his mind doesn't really know who he was or did he. The narrator did a great job on telling the story.
I received this book for free in exchange for my honest opinion.
