Publisher's summary

A Crumpet Christmas is the perfect time to fall in love.

When a mission goes south, Elijah Cobalt is forced to take medical leave. What could be better than relaxing in a small town and keeping an eye on his little sister at the same time? Nothing, until he gets his first look at his sister's boss. Elijah has always felt bulky and big around the smaller type of men he prefers and around Justin Bailey, it's the same damned thing.

Justin gave up dating big, muscled men after his breakup with his abusive boyfriend, but he just might make an exception when his cafe manager's older brother takes over his spare bedroom. The instant attraction has sparks flying and, after a few days, Justin doesn't want to fight it any longer.

Christmas is a magical time of year. The power of love takes over, and possibilities are endless.

Until Justin's ex-boyfriend suddenly shows up out of the blue determined to cause as much trouble for him as possible. Only Justin has a support system now, in the form of a Special Forces Unit, and things are going to get really damned intense in a very short amount of time.

Mess with one and you mess with them all.

Contains mature themes.

enjoyed it

📖 Story comment: good pace, likeable characters, entertaining plot.

I listened to all 8 books in the Code of Honor series back to back and loved every one of them. My review covers the whole series in general because there is a story arc that is built on in each book and leads into the next series (Operation Justice Force) so it's all a good fit.

The series is well developed, each story is action packed, has good pace and likeable characters. I like my books a little longer, but overall I was happy with the series and will listen to it again.

Risking It All as a delightful Christmas addition to this quite intense Special Forces series - I was absolutely charmed by Justin and Crumpet!

🎧 Narrator comment: Troy Duran was a good choice of narrator for this series and he did a great job with the narration. Each character had his own voice and I had no problem distinguishing characters from each other and his rhythm, inflections and intonations all worked to bring the characters to life. My only negative comment would be: the secondary characters (ie: other team members) voices were often inconsistent across the series - listening to each book separately I didn't really notice, but when listened to back to back the inconsistency was noticeable.

It’s okay

An ok way to pass a few hours. Not a wonderful book. Not one to rave about. A cute premise. Parts of the writing are pretty good, others less so. A lot of missing bits and plot leaps the reader/listener has to try to connect and keep up with. Some very ‘Hallmark movie’ sections.

If you’re not too critical of it and are only looking for a light distraction, you might enjoy this book.

Narration is a ‘perfect’ fit to the book. It also has its moments, where Troy Duran offers a glimpse of range I didn’t realize he had, but overall it seems like he got tired or bored and the magic ended. There are some really good passages, but overall the narration is fairly flat. Not terrible. Also nothing to rave about.
