About this listen

Ted Hammond loves a good mystery, and in the spring of his fifth-grade year, he's working on a big one. How can his school in the little town of Plattsford stay open next year if there are going to be only five students? Out here on the Great Plains, in western Nebraska, everyone understands that if you lose the school, you lose the town. But the mystery that has Ted's full attention at the moment is about that face, the face he sees in the upper window of the Andersons' house as he rides past on his paper route. The Andersons moved away two years ago, and their old farmhouse is empty and boarded up tight. At least it's supposed to be.

A shrinking school in a dying town. A face in the window of an empty house. At first these facts don't seem to be related. But Ted Hammond learns that in a very small town, there's no such thing as an isolated event. And the solution of one mystery is often the beginning of another.

I wish the narration had used real kids. The story was really good. My favourite part of the story is when Ted meets April. I learned a lot about one room school houses.

What did you love best about Room One?

The narration paired with the story. A clever Ted Hammond is not only a perfectionist regarding accomplishments but he is prepared like every good scout. This is a modern time story and won't stand the test of time but it is an enjoyable story regarding farm children who are part of a team, not just a kid. Good for a family reading.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A film? Why waste the time and money? Books have an entirely different sensation. The are also custom fitted to each reader/listener because we choose the exact color of blue, the brand of peanut butter and size of someone's shoes. Films are overrated when it comes to the idea that all books should be turned to film. It is a rare specimen that is better than the book. Rare indeed!

Very cute.

Where does Room One rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

My son loved this book! He chose it for a book report for school!

Any additional comments?

Love that you can add audio.. My son has dyslexia and it helps not only to have the audio but he can read along with the audio portion!

LOVED IT!!
