Publisher's summary

Volume three of the Crescent City trilogy.

2005. The greatest natural disaster in American history is fast approaching New Orleans. Friend, family, stranger, and foe alike will meet their fates as a killer named Katrina tries to drown the Gulf Coast. Who will live and who will not?

The survivors must pick up the pieces of their shattered lives. Can the kindness of strangers make up for the bureaucratic bumbling of government officials?

Will those left in the Crescent City ever find normalcy again?

Author’s note: Ruin and Renewal is volume three of the Crescent City series. The story resumes immediately after the end of volume two, Elysian Dreams. The author strongly suggests that story be heard before this one.

Magnificent ending of the trilogy

This is the final part of the Jane Austen-based trilogy set in New Orleans. It deals with the disaster of Hurricane Katrina as it upsets the lives of the characters we got to know in previous volumes. Elizabeth and Darcy, Jane and Chuck, Mari and Chris, Emma and George, Carrie and John Buford are all in a stable, committed relationship in this book, and the disaster strengthens their bond as extended family and circle of friends. The tragedy of Katrina, the sometimes wrong decisions of those responsible for the safety of people are portrayed as a catastrophe documentary, and those of our heroes who are First Responders show their courage and dedication while they live through the horrors of trying to maintain order in the flooded city and among refugees. The perpetrators of the crimes in Volume I get their just desserts in the wake of the storm, precipitated by their decisions. I loved how the people of New Orleans showed their loyalty to the city, coming back and fighting for rebuilding what was lost. It is perhaps wrong to write I enjoyed this volume immensely because of the tragic content, but it was moving and reassuring in spite of it. This trilogy has been one of my favourite books, I am glad to see it published as an audiobook. The narrator does a wonderful job just like in the previous volumes. The intense emotions, the terrible catastrophe, the bravery of the people and the strength and comfort from family and friendship all come to life with her voice, A wonderful listening experience!
