About this listen

Run, Walk, Crawl- A Caregiver Caught Between Generations is an honest, revealing examination of working mother overload.

This highly relevant memoir has been named:

•Winner (Caregiving) Independent Press Award 2023

•Winner (Women’s Issues) NYC Big Book Award 2022

•Winner (Caregiving) National Indie Excellence® Award (NIEA) 2021

•Winner (Christian) Next Generation Indie Book Award (NGIBA) 2021

•Finalist (Inspirational and Women’s Issues) American Book Fest’s Best Book Award 2020

•Bronze (AUDIO Book Narration- Non-fiction) Reader’s Favorite Award 2021

•Honorable Mention (Inspirational) 30th Annual Writer’s Digest Self-Published Book Awards

Central to the book’s theme is the compelling question…when it comes to employees who may be masking the burden of caregiving responsibilities, what IS the corporate responsibility? If any?

A decade before the pandemic, in a period when terms like family caregiver, self-care and hybrid work schedules weren’t common, women compartmentalized their roles (good daughter, working mother, dutiful wife) and attempted to be all things to all people. Stifled by the stigma of being “uncommitted” associated with using FMLA, and sandwiched at work between boomers and millennials, and at home between caring for an elderly Father and her own family, author, Sarahbeth Persiani writes an intimate account of personal and professional personas unraveling.

By no means prescriptive, with honesty, humility, and a smattering of 1970's throwback references, this story offers relatable insights into one woman's transformation with lessons for us all.

Having a career and being a caregiver is hard

This memoir struck home for me. I completely understood Sarahbeth's point of view. We both are the youngest in the family, had young children while navigating caregiving for a elderly parent who over time developed dementia, and the decisions that come with it. Her description of the workplace and her need to put a career face on when entering the office is true for most working mothers. Her personal stories brought laughter and tears to my eyes. Sarahbeth is from Worcester, MA and her Central Mass accent is there. If you are from other parts of the U.S. you'll get the flavor of the region.

Caregiving is hard regardless of the type

I never considered myself a caregiver to my dad after my mom passed 3 years ago because he has been fully capable of working and being independent. This memoir covered some of the thoughts and feelings that I have been battling with during those 3 years. Having to take on the responsibility of paying the bills for his personal and business and doing all things electronically that he does not do is a part time job on top of working full time and raising my own family. You doing ask or choose these things to happen, you are just thrown into this and there is no preparation time for it.
