About this listen

NAMED A MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK BY: Time, People, LitHub, and BookRiot

An unexpected road trip across America brings a family together, in this raucous and moving new novel from the bestselling author of Nothing to See Here.

Ever since her dad left them twenty years ago, it’s been just Madeline Hill and her mom on their farm in Coalfield, Tennessee. While it’s a bit lonely, she sometimes admits, and a less exciting life than what she imagined for herself, it’s mostly okay. Mostly.

Then one day Reuben Hill pulls up in a PT Cruiser and informs Madeline that he believes she’s his half sister. Reuben—left behind by their dad thirty years ago—has hired a detective to track down their father and a string of other half siblings. And he wants Mad to leave her home and join him for the craziest kind of road trip imaginable to find them all.

As Mad and Rube—and eventually the others—share stories of their father, who behaved so differently in each life he created, they begin to question what he was looking for with every new incarnation. Who are they to one another? What kind of man will they find? And how will these new relationships change Mad’s previously solitary life on the farm?

Infused with deadpan wit, zany hijinks, and enormous heart, Run for the Hills is a sibling story like no other—a novel about a family forged under the most unlikely circumstances and united by hope in an unknown future.

This story is so beautifully written, I loved it. Even though you felt you knew what would happen, each significant event was felt in my heart because of the author’s writing. This is my second book by this author, big fan!

Stunning!

I love the way this author writes. He quickly gets to the point of the story, pulls you in with the characters and I love that the story wraps up quicker than most. I am at the point in my life that I am doing only audible books and the shorter get to the point stories works great for me. Once again this author manages to create a story that is not the norm. Buy it, read it, listen to it. You won't regret it. I also loved the narrator.

Another Great one by Kevin

Mad was my favorite character but all the siblings were interesting. A unique take on the found family subject theme.

Found family

The first chapter, and a some of the second is a bit slow, but it sets up the story really well. The remainder of this book is a wild and fun ride with characters that you’ll love and care about.

An awesome book!

4 stars. Happy to see Marin Ireland as audio narrator. I love Kevin Wilson's writing. He writes sibling relationships particularly well. I enjoyed the way this type of found family story came together. Sometimes it got a little messy (Tom) but on the whole, the book was Wilson's brand of funny from the jump and I enjoyed the road trip.

Kevin Wilson Keeps Delivering

I usually don’t pay too much attention to the narrator when I listen to audio books. That role has typically been just to read to me when I mow the lawn, or go for a walk, etc. When I listened to one of Kevin Wilson’s previous books, “Nothing to See Here” I was very impressed by Marin Ireland’s reading of the book and her range of using individual character voices. That experience sold me on the recent release of “Run for the Hills” which is an equally enjoyable listening experience. The combination of Kevin’s story and Marin’s voice is excellent.

Engaging Story and Awesome Narrator

I don’t wanna say anything about the story other than if you’ve read any of Kevin’s books and enjoyed them then this is a must read. He has shifted his genre and kept all of his skills and talents alive. I hope he writes more because it really does a lot from my soul.

Kevin W finds that reality can be as bizarre as his imagination, and has heart

Quirky, as is Kevin Wilson’s fabulous writing. Laugh out loud moments in a story about the bonds of siblings who bond over their quest to find their father, even though they’d never met. Great story!

What a road trip!

I love Kevin Wilson. My father had 4 kids, with 4 mothers with a 23 year age gap from oldest to youngest so this book's found family scenario really hits for me. Now that I've finished it I miss the Hills.

It ME!
