About this listen

Fresh off a plane from France, I was ready for a little reprieve.

After a wild night and a few too many drinks, I ended up in a hotel room with a complete stranger.

I didn’t think I’d ever see him again — boy, was I wrong.

Two days later, he walks into my dad’s office.

He was looking for the man in charge.

Instead, he found me — the boss’s daughter.

A few sly remarks about my family had me all too skeptical about revealing my identity.

It’s a good thing I held back....

Because it seems he’s got an opinion about the Big Wig’s daughter, too.

Stuck-up.

High-strung.

Demanding.

So, I let him believe I was an employee, too.

A measly assistant with the curiosity of a cat.

At least, that’s what he thought.

Now I can find out why he’s painted this dark picture of my family.

And it’s time to show him that I’m more than a name in the rumor mill.

That’s all assuming I’m not exposed first.

Ruthless Rookie

Ruthless Rookie is a book in the Cocky Hero Club. This book is told from dual points of view by Mira and Sawyer.

Mira and Sawyer hook up one night, but when she goes to leave she gives him a false name. Then he shows up at her father's company for a job. He believes this is someone else than the boss's daughter.

Mira is back at her father's company after her name is slandered in the media. Her father has kept her picture and info private, so Sawyer doesn't realize who he is really interacting with. Mira wants to prove to Sawyer that she's not all the media made her out to be.

Both Sawyer and Mira have rough pasts. Can Mira prove to her brother and father she's there to step up? Can she get her brother's forgiveness? Can she prove to Sawyer she's not that girl the media made her out to be? Can Sawyer realize the company isn't as bad as he assumes it is?

I really enjoyed getting to know Sawyer and Mira.

❤️❤️❤️

It was hard for me to determine who I felt more for in this book, Sawyer was really a shadow of his former self and Mira had made mistakes but really had no unwavering support she just was kind of made to feel like she was something to be ashamed of. The two really needed each other but there’s a combo of not wanting to need anyone else and not wanting open up. The chemistry between these two was everything, they don’t know it but they’re exactly what the other needs. And the steamy scenes were 💯.

Loved the narration

This book was exactly the lighthearted, sexy read I didn't know I needed! It was different than the other Rachel Leigh book I have read, but I loved it just as much.

Ruthless Rookie is a Hero Club novel. I both read and listened to the audio, which is narrated by Charles Carr and Ellory James, and who both did a fantastic job as Sawyer and Mira. While this story was sexy and fun, it was filled with emotional drama and angst. There were a couple of characters I really wanted to punch in the "richard", but all in all I like the spin that Rachel Leigh put on Mira's characters and that of her family.

Mira Glasson was the youngest daughter of billionaire, Floyd Glasson, owner of Glasson Waters. After a scandal sent her off into hiding for a year in France, Mira returned home to California, where she wanted to do her part in the family's business. She wanted to prove to her father and her family that she belonged at Glasson Waters, but her return was met with apprehension, doubt and mistrust. I felt bad for Mira. She couldn't catch a break. It seriously felt as if the entire world was against her, even those who didn't know her. She was constantly under scrutiny and the watchful eyes of others. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand why this was, but give the girl a chance. I hated that she was the one to blame for everything and the way Lance treated her at times, but I loved her courage because despite her own insecurities and fear of failure, she came back and held her own. She stayed true to who she was while continuing to learn and grow.

Sawyer Rhodes had demons he was running from. He was stubborn and judgmental (to some point). He, himself, had painted a negative picture of the Glasson family, especially that of Mira. The thing is even after the scandal, Mira's identity was still a secret. Her name was known, but her physical appearance remained a mystery. Which is why after a passionate one night stand, Sawyer and Mira thought they'd never see each other again, but little they did know their paths were about to crash.

This was another great book by one of my favorites.

Contemporary Office Romance

Ruthless Rookie by Rachel Leigh is a contemporary office romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Charles Carr and Ellory James.

Rachel's books always leave me with a smile. I really enjoyed the relationship that bloomed between Mira and Sawyer. Their relationship started off a bit rocky, but you couldn't help but root for them. I liked that we got both of their points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

Charles and Ellory did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you like contemporary romances or office place romances.

“I hate the way this girl makes me feel."

“It’s like he knows me. Even the way he looks at me makes me feel like we’ve known each other for years. My ease of comfort around Sawyer comes so naturally. It’s terrifying.”

Ruthless Rookie was a departure from the dark romances that I’m used to by Rachel Leigh. It was lighter and funnier but no less steamy. Mira and Sawyer are both running from their pasts when they have a chance meeting and then find out they’ll be working together. Will their secrets destroy their relationship before it even begins?

Mira was a sassy and feisty character who was struggling to find her place in the world. Her family underestimates her and she’s just trying to prove that she’s not the same person she was in the past. When she meets Sawyer, she hides her true identity and it lets her get to know him without him judging her for her past mistakes.

Sawyer is running from a painful past because he thinks that will help him mask his pain. He’s not looking for a relationship and does his best to keep his distance from Mira, but the attraction is too strong. When he begins to let Mira into his life, he begins to realize that there is still joy in the world if he can let go of his past, but when he discovers her deception, will he be able to forgive her?

Charles Carr and Ellory James were new narrators to me and they did a nice job of bringing Sawyer and Mira to life. Their narration was fun and entertaining and kept me engrossed in this fast-paced story.

Full of secrets and lies plus so much heat, Ruthless Rookie is a fast paced, entertaining read with a lot of heart and a bit of angst. Mira and Sawyer are two flawed individuals who have huge hearts and just need someone to see them for who they truly are.
