About this listen

The Greatcoats are back - and this time it's personal.

How do you kill a Saint? Falcio, Brasti and Kest are about to find out, as someone is doing just that, and they've started with a friend.

The Dukes were already looking for ways to weasel out of their promise to put Aline on her father's throne - but with Saints turning up dead and Church Inquisitors pushing for control, rumours are spreading that the gods themselves oppose her ascension.

The only way Falcio can stop the country turning into a vicious theocracy is to find and stop the Saint killer - but his only clue is the iron mask encasing the head of the Saint of Mercy, which prevents her from speaking. And even if he can find the murderer, he will still have to face them in battle - and this may be a duel that no swordsman, no matter how skilled, can win.

A great story

I truly enjoyed this installment. It has elements that I absolutely love as an individual story…but its place in the series does raise an eyebrow. That said, Falcio has quickly become one of my favorite protagonists.

Chaotic intrigue

The third book of this series is a wonderful political intrigue with a good balance of being able to guess some out comes and be surprised when you’re wrong. Overall, i enjoyed the book and the series but also fear at times that the characters have too much plot armor.

Love this series.

I am really enjoying this series, always twist and turns, I finished the third book in less than a week, excited for the fourth book. If you like swashbuckling, romance, intrigue, and every other adventurous word I can insert, you will enjoy this book.

Relentless

One of the things that really stands out about these books is how relentless the story gets. It is almost exhausting. Almost. The pacing is on point and the action feels like it never stops. I find myself feeling so much sympathy for the heroes because they go through trial after trial that it feels like they can't possibly continue, but they persist, which I love. This book does not disappoint!

Another hit!

The group definitely dealt with a different problem this time, but it was just as enjoyable. The only thing that slightly bugs me about the writing style (and this is a very slight annoyance) is that at times, Falcio thinks to himself and the thoughts feel like the author is trying to explain or review what's going on. I can see this as a benefit for some though, so I don't mind it too much. Other than , I have absolutely loved and adored these books. They have humor, camaraderie, love, devotion, and valor. They make you want to be a Greatcoat!
