About this listen

Sara Crewe is the 1888 serialized story Frances Hodgson Burnett eventually turned into the popular novel A Little Princess, which was published in 1915. Much of the plot is the same, a little girl with a wealthy father is left at a boarding school in London, while he goes abroad. Sara is a charming and popular girl whose fortunes reverse when her father dies, apparently without money. Sarah is treated cruelly by the headmistress of the school, but her fortunes take another turn when a watchful neighbor takes an interest in her.

Overlooked Classic!

If you could sum up Sara Crewe in three words, what would they be?

Tenacious, compassionate, imaginative

What was one of the most memorable moments of Sara Crewe?

When she gives most of the buns she bought to the little beggar girl outside of the bakery.

What about Bobbie Frohman’s performance did you like?

Smooth voice, nice to listen to

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

A great deal of the story does, its hard to pinpoint just one.

Any additional comments?

I remember reading this book as a child, and how Sara remained dignified in the face of all the obstacles she faced. Even though she was often ridiculed by her peers and those who were supposed to take care of her after the change in her financial situation.
I have young children, I've read the book to my daughter and since we downloaded this audio book we've listened to it twice. I can't wait to share more books authored by Francis Hodgson Burnett
