About this listen

Perfect for fans of DOWNTON ABBEY, from the author of the hugely successful MORLAND DYNASTY novels

Behind the doors of the magnificent Ashmore Castle, secrets are waiting to be uncovered . . .

1901. When the Earl of Stainton dies in a tragic hunting accident, Giles, the eldest son of the noble Tallant family, must step forward to replace him as the head of the family. But Giles has avoided the Castle and his stifling relatives for years, deciding instead to forge his own path away from the spotlight. Now, he must put aside his ambitions and honour his duty to the family.

With their world upended, the Tallants and their servants struggle to find their place in the house - and society - once again. And Giles realises that, along with the title and the castle, he's also inherited his father's significant financial troubles that threaten the security of his entire family.

In Kensington, Kitty Bayfield, the painfully shy but moneyed daughter of a Baronet, has just left school with her penniless companion Nina. Nina captures the new Earl's heart, but only Kitty can save his family from their debts, and soon Giles must choose between his duty and his heart . . .

The Secrets of Ashmore Castle is the first in a brand new historical family drama series, filled with heartbreak, romance and intriguing secrets waiting to be uncovered. The perfect read for fans of Downton Abbey, Bridgerton and rich period dramas. Don't miss the next book, The Affairs of Ashmore Castle.

This book did jump between characters but was not bad until the end. It was like falling off a cliff or hitting a wall. NO results to any of the issues. I get why the author did this, so you get the next book but seriously at least one thing could have been finished. Instead every story line did not have any ending at all so that was a disappointment to say the least.

Slow to start but did get much better

This is a truly a lovely, filled out story with all kinds of characters. To make it so much more is the incredible performance of the Reader! She does a first class job of each character and the total performance is really something.

Just Lovely!

What a pleasure! A narrator absolutely makes or breaks a book! After listening to two hopeless narrators, THANK YOU PENELOPE! The last book I listened to was one of Lesley Pearse's... SECRETS. The narrator sounded like she had terminal emphysema.. Why does AUDIBLE use narrators who breathe right into the mike..? Big dragon gaaaasps .. Funny thing is that as soon as you're aware of it, you can't hear the words or sentences anymore .. Once your brain gets distracted by those big hungry gasps,, that's all you can hear! So Bravo to Ms Freeman. She uses different voices for different people and deep voices for the men. Fabulous voice. Anyway.. I've searched through all the books Penelope Freeman has narrated and downloaded a few. 5 stars! 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

PENELOPE FREEMAN. EXCELLENT NARRATOR. THE BEST!
