About this listen

In seaside Blueberry Cove, Maine, friends are just another word for family, and big-city politics take a backseat to local pride. But the real treasure on these shores is always love....

When DC lawyer Hannah McCrae heads home for her brother's wedding, she's dragging a lot of baggage along with her - and she doesn't mean suitcases. Betrayed personally and humiliated professionally, the last thing she wants is a new man. That's fine with square-jawed, rugged contractor Calder Blue. He and Hannah may be wildly attracted to one another, but all he wants is to build the town's hotly contested new yacht club and mend a centuries-old family feud. Yet thanks to resentments old and new, day after day the pair wind up tangled in each other's business - and maybe soon in each other's arms. Every bride needs something "blue"....

Mainely Humorous 30+ Romantic Drama

I was thoroughly entertained by Sea Glass Sunrise, my 1st book by Donna Kauffman. The main characters (Hannah, her siblings and Calder) were mostly mature (30+), compelling, quirky, intelligent and engrossing personalities. The sisters were all strong, women, not a doormat in the family and Calder was sexy, yet caring & kind. The "supporting cast" (other relatives and local residents) were also unique, adding spice to an original plot.

My only compliant was the lack of authenticity in the Maine coastal setting of Blueberry Cove, population just over 300. Being a native Mainer myself, the pronunciation of local towns (Calais for example) was totally wrong and no village of that size could support a police department or city government services.

Also the weather/clothing did not match the stated seasons (Hannah would have needed a parka to walk the water front in late spring, not a light jacket since sea breezes are always cool due to ocean temperatures never above 50, even in August). Furthermore, no native resident of Down East Maine (the coast north of Bar Harbor to Canada) stays home when in snows, which is 7-8 months of each year.

Regardless, the book was excellent with mild sex scenes and very little swearing. Amanda Ronconi has the best voice for humor, adding nuances to witty dialogue.

Painfully Slow

Decent story, but it just moved along painfully slowly. And the author took an inordinate amount of time spelling things out for the reader. I'm not sure why I didn't stop listening or why I'm giving the second book a chance. The characters are compelling and I'm a sucker for small town family romances.

Good storyline

A good stoeyline although a bit predictable. Narrator pronounced the town of Calais as cal-lay instead of cal-lass which occurred many times in the story driving me crazy. All in all, I would recommend this book.

Maine?

I enjoyed the story by a few things made me wonder if the author had done much research. I haven’t seen many pelicans or eaten a hush puppy in Maine.

Enjoyable light read

A lovely lazy day romantic read. A little predictable and cliched in places but still worth the time.

Blueberry Cove an d Seagllass

It kept your attention with some suspension e. You were sure what was going to happen next. It was romance and mystery at the same time.

I would recommend it

Adult themes

Sexually explicit. The narrator was ok, but had some annoying voices for the different characters
