Publisher's summary

When a second chance turns into something much more....

Piper Happ’s dead-end life turns into the ultimate nightmare when her roommate and upstairs neighbor are both murdered.

To further complicate things, Piper’s former best friend Nicolas is back in town. In high school, Piper would have done anything for him — until he moved across the country without warning or explanation. Against Piper’s better judgment, she seeks comfort and support from Nicolas, as she might be the killer’s next target.

He wants a second chance, but she isn’t sure she wants to risk a second heartbreak.

With a murderer on the loose, and danger lurking in every corner, is she putting just her heart in jeopardy - or her life, as well?

Interesting Thriller

This was my first R.M. Demeester's book. This is an interesting thriller. Piper and Nicolas's story is filled with danger, murders, secrets, and twists and turns. The characters are complex, and the plot is intriguing. Ri Paige did a good job with the narration.

Predictable but enjoyable.

This is one of those mystery novels that I find completely predictable. I enjoyed every bit of it, I wanted to see how things played out. But I had the basic mystery figured out early on.

The biggest complaint I have is the main character. Not only is she completely oblivious, but she’s also the type of person to throw a pity party for herself to then mope about how nobody showed up.

I can’t say more without spoilers, hell, even what I’ve said might spoil it if you don’t figure it out in the first hour.

The narrator of the audiobook is great. Her Canadian accent can be distracting at times, as she seemingly randomly puts extra emphasis on the letter o but doesn’t do it every time.

This was a bit slow moving and not the best read (listen)

I’m not exactly sure what it was about this book but I kept falling asleep. This book definitely has potential but I found it lacking. There was murder and suspense but it didn’t leave me on the edge of my seat. I’m up to trying another book by this author, in hopes that the writing gets better. I’m just grateful that I didn’t have to spend a credit of my own for this title.

It was a nice book

I listened to this book. The narrator did a pretty good job. I didn’t like piper she was pushover. She let everyone at work walk all over her but is short with her mom! I thought it way on too long about where she would stay now that my roommate was found dead. She is very emotional. 2 girls dead in the same apartment building. It was very pleasant to listen to.

great story

I had a feeling about this story - I guessed who the villain is almost from the beginning, but it didn't take the enjoyment I had from this book.
Great story, great characters.
The narrator did a great job of bringing the story to life.

Twisted

Wow, this is some kinda listen. Great narration - smooth and easy on the ears, doesn't distract from the storyline that is oh so twisted. Main character is Piper who to me comes across so entitled, selfish and immature. I really didn't like her - they attitude she has with her mom and bosses and the way she back talks would have gotten her no friends where I'm from but when she meets back up with her former best friend from school Nicholas something doesn't seem quite right there either - but they seem to balance each other well but still the author keeps you triggered with topics that keep coming up so you know there are twists left to be resolved and WOW are there some twists! The book is listed as a romantic suspense but I didn't feel that was really actuate but idk how else to categorize it. Overall a great narration of a good book that has lots of twists and turns.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Second Chance

Piper’s life was turned upside down. When she reconnects with her best friend (and crush) from high school, it looks like things may start to turn around, but do they really???

R.M. Demeester had me hooked as this book progressed. I had a feeling I knew where things were headed, but that did not detract from my enjoyment of the twists in the story.

Ri Paige’s narration was well done. Her performance matched up with the tone of the book perfectly.

An interesting mystery.

Not too fond of this book. Didn't really care for any of the characters. It does have a good plot. I thought I knew who done it, but turns out I was only partially right. Not enough romance for my liking.
I was gifted an Audible version of this book and this is my voluntary review.
The narrator was very pleasant to listen too.

Audio Review of a Story

The story is alright, not my favorite nor particularly complex/suspenseful. I had trouble connecting with the main character. She was always a bit whiny and a bit dense. I never understood quite why Nick gave her the time of day, but it works with the plot line. The story wasn’t all that thrilling and there wasn’t exactly a mystery for the main character to solve. The story just goes on and then ends. Probably the last chapter was the most interesting.
The story isn’t too gory, but there is murder. There is also swearing and some steamy scenes.

The narrator did an ok job with the story given. I wasn’t particularly impressed with her voice. It wasn’t bad, just not as good as some of the other narrators I’ve listened to previously. Maybe if I’d liked the story more, I’d have liked the narration better.

Second Chances!

"Second Chance" is really not a romance like most would think. The story is more a murder mystery type genre. The story is about Piper, whose life is turned upside. A string of incidents occur: she is overlooked for a promotion at work, a neighbor has had a bizarre accident, she cannot get back in her apartment, runs into her old high school friend and crush who ghosted her, she discovers her roommates dead body, etc. Her old friend decides her wants a second chance and they start a relationship but a series of things happen after that don't make since. I think I would have liked this story better if I hade read it. The narrator I think might have been most of the problem I had. Piper came off as very winy and Nicolas came off as odd. The narrator made me want to put the story down most of the time because of the way she read the story. I did like how the story ended.
