THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

“Told in rotating points of view, this Tilt-A-Whirl of a novel brims with jangly tension – an undeniably engrossing guessing game.”Vogue

""[A] clever, cliff-hanger-filled thriller.""People

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Guest List comes a new locked room mystery, set in a Paris apartment building in which every resident has something to hide…

Jess needs a fresh start. She’s broke and alone, and she’s just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn’t sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn’t say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up – to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? – he’s not there.

The longer Ben stays missing, the more Jess starts to dig into her brother’s situation, and the more questions she has. Ben’s neighbors are an eclectic bunch, and not particularly friendly. Jess may have come to Paris to escape her past, but it’s starting to look like it’s Ben’s future that’s in question.

The socialite – The nice guy – The alcoholic – The girl on the verge – The concierge

Everyone's a neighbor. Everyone's a suspect. And everyone knows something they’re not telling.

Loved ALL the narrators

The different narrators worked really well. Very successfully rendered they were without a challenge to the listener. The constant French phrases and words were fantastic and also done with panache, and I enjoyed the reminder of my French …. and even someone without any French could follow along as they were always interpreted. This is my favorite Foley book to date.

Amazing!

I couldn’t stop listening. Performance was wonderful, written beautifully. I kept trying to guess the twists but I didn’t see them coming. Lucy Foley is one of my favorite authors!

I Love Lucy Foley

Great story, beautifully told and character driven, with a surprise ending I did not see coming. With The Guest List and the Hunting Party under her belt, Foley has become one of my favorite, go-to writers. Credit also goes to the excellent cast of readers. Wonderful! Can’t wait for the next one.

Great book!

I’ve read several by Lucy Foley, but this is the best one so far. Compelling writing and the ensemble read worked well for me. Highly recommended.

Better than the Guest List

Really enjoyed. Not as predictable as some of her other stories which I really liked.

I haven’t returned it, because I want to believe that it’s going to get better. Does it???

Loved the performances and story!

I really did enjoy this book, and I'll be recommending it to friends. Loved the twists: some were predictable in the way that I felt validated, some not so predictable, in the way I was pleasantly surprised.
I can't quite put my finger on why this didn't blow me away. I think there were maybe a few too many peripheral characters that felt like they were going to be meatier, but weren't?

I loved all of the performances, with the exception of Jess. I think the character was written quite likably, but the narration made her seem tacky, slower than she actually was, less perceptive. I would have liked her to have less of an apathetic voice and one that was more suited to her vibrant character!

Meh

I already have a hard time with audiobooks, but throw in multiple people with French accents and it was really difficult to keep them all straight. I enjoyed the “twist” at the end though.
