About this listen

Horrific plane crash, murderous deception, and a deadly chase in the alligator-infested Florida Everglades!

On the afternoon of May 11, 1996, ValuJet 592 plunged into the Florida Everglades. There were no survivors. But something came through the crash unscathed: a small box with huge implications for humankind. And the one man unlucky enough to discover its whereabouts disappeared without a trace.

Now, 20 years later, the mystery of Flight 592 hits close to home for Del Honeycutt and best-selling mystery author Sabrina Spencer. A shocking revelation launches them into the middle of a dark conspiracy, and locating the box becomes a matter of life or death. They are not alone in the hunt for the mysterious package and very quickly learn that others will stop at nothing to find it, eliminating anyone who stands in their way.

With killers hot on their trail, Del and Sabrina must navigate dangers lurking both above and below the swamp waters of the Everglades in order to find the box...and to survive.

Not the best of the series

Was a bit dissatisfied with this audible it was good but to me it was rushed and really badly thought out. As I have said before the audibles keeps you on the edge of your seat this one did not and to be honest it ended to fast. Now the book after this one goes back to a 50's style story telling. The only good thing about this book it let's you know what happens to Del and why in the next book he has issues walking.
Sorry to be a downer on this book all the others are excellent

THE TITLE IS A PERFECT FIT

SECRETS & LIES is the fourth book in the Lies series. Though each mystery will stand on its own, the series is a continuing relationship between Sabrina and Del. I strongly recommend reading the series in the order of release.

It’s a shame that the author didn’t include notes about this being based on fact. ValuJet Flight 592 did crash into the Everglades on May 11, 1996, due to improperly stored cargo starting a fire. All 100 people onboard were lost.

I adored this fast-paced, suspense-filled, edge-of-my-seat, run-full-tilt story that was filled with secrets and lies. The title was a perfect fit!

Add in that they are visiting my home state for most of the book and I was a smiling girl. Alligators and swamp boats!!! I’m on for the ride!!! This was an adventure with critters, bullets, and rednecks.

Trivia: In case you listened (or are planning to) and don't know the difference. An Alligator has a C-shaped nose and a Crocodile has an A-shaped nose. The question is posed in the book, but not answered. So, now you know.

Our four favorite characters, Del, Sabrina, Mo, and Seymour, have each been the focus of a book now. I look forward to where this series may branch out.

Narration: I have grown to love to listen to Greg Hernandez read me a story. I hope he will return for the next in the series and that I will be blessed with a copy.

Note: While I received this book as a gifted audiobook copy via Audiobookworm Promotions, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

Good Narration & Series

A box that has held secrets for twenty years. Now it involves Del and Sabrina the twists and turns, with danger and adventure.
Seymour a grumpy man who also lives in the complex gives us a bit of humor. A good series, and the audio had good narration
Given audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

Mystery changes everything

Yes this is true in this story Everglades is you typical sweet and sunny and peaceful site where tourists mostly come to spend there holiday. But something changes , a plane crash happen and then came a secret cargo something inside it would make your stomach churn with anticipation. With good or bad it's up to you?

But it does have it's secrets. A secret formula "fountain of youth" and it's secret location , and clue.

Everything is soo believable it feels like it's happening in reality. This story is fast paced and with so many twists , secrets and lies. See what I did there.

Story started with Bang like literally . Someone enter MC room and shooting started to happen . Gosh how much I love thrill . I was anxious and then everything gotten hyped . Omg I just loved it.

But a major question arises why everyone want that secret box and what's the story behind it ? What role Seymour played in it?

Why both Sabrina and Del wanted to solve this mystery and does it need to cost their life ? Will they overcome it ?

Character is well written . Seymour and mo ,Sabrina and Del written in very good manner. The language is simple and I like everything about it. Narrator played a major role by making these character alive and making this story more enjoyable.

A fun read

My first audiobook by author Andrew Cunningham and narrator Greg Hernandez, I loved the narration. It was fast paced and lively. The intonations brought out the different expressions of the story. The author’s writing came alive by the narration as I could visualize the scenes easily. I found that I could go a speed higher while listening to the narrator. It was that clear.

The story had its twists and turns with a massive reveal at the beginning of it. Then on it was a race against time. I couldn’t help but try to scramble fast to keep up with the main characters.

Enjoyable and Unique Characters

SECRETS & LIES (“Lies” Mystery Thriller Series Book #4) by Andrew Cunningham is another entertaining mystery/thriller addition to the series. This is the fourth and final book in the series and the first of the books I have listened to in audiobook format. The mystery plot is a standalone, but I believe you will enjoy these books more by reading them in order.

This book starts with a BANG, literally. Seymour shoots intruders that are sneaking into his apartment.

The story then goes back twenty years in time to when Seymour was called Jack and an airboat driver for a tourist company in the Florida Everglades. Jack/Seymour was enjoying some solitude when ValuJet 592 plunged into the Everglades killing all on board and changing his life forever.

Back to present day and Del Honeycutt, best-selling mystery author Sabrina Spencer and Del’s other tenant Mo, are all shocked to learn the truth about Jack/Seymour, Mo and how his past is coming back to haunt him.

The four friends return to the Everglades together to find a box Jack/Seymour buried twenty years ago and in the process they are on the run from rogue government agents, mobsters, a crooked billionaire and alligators. Are samples from the fabled “Fountain of Youth” really in that long-buried box and will the friends be able to live long enough to find out?

This is such a fun mystery/thriller. The four main characters are unique and entertaining in their own way quirky ways. All the characters, good and bad were able to take the story from fun, dry humor to serious in a heartbeat. To find out Jack/Seymour’s secrets really changed my perception of him from previous books. The mystery plot is full of twists and turns that kept me guessing.

This fourth book, same as the previous book in the series are fun, entertaining reads. Mr. Hernandez does a great job of narrating this book. Because I read the first books, some of the character narration does not match how I envisioned some of the characters to sound in speech. It did not detract from my enjoyment of the audible book though.

I recommend this unique series of books and characters, but as stated previously, I do believe they should be read or listened to in order.

Not a bad book in the series

This book gave more background information on Seymour and Mo. Along with the usual twists, action, near death, etc. for Del and Sabrina, this continues with a deeper look at some of the character's backgrounds. This was an interesting book in the series but not one of my favorites. Yet again Del and Sabrina are constantly being tracked down and attempts are made on their lives. I liked finding out more of the back story on Seymour and Mo. One left in the series to read.

The title couldn't be more apt - a great mystery

I listened to this story with a sense of glee at being reunited with Del and Sabrina again. It was like meeting up with old friends ... but by the end I was happy to be the listener, and very glad not be to shot at!

Secrets and Lies is Seymour's story. Until now, he's been the grump in the downstairs apartment with a close bond only with Mo, a fact which bemuses and baffles Del as he's never even see the two of them together.

Well, now the reason for that bond is revealed, as is Seymour's true identity. Believe me when I say he's one dark horse, and very handy with a shotgun. When two guys come to the apartment intent on killing him, it is Seymour who is victorious. His handiwork leaves the two men dead, and Seymour's secret past can stay hidden no more.

Without giving away the plot, the four residents head for Florida's Everglades, where twenty years earlier "Seymour" was in the wrong place at the wrong time when a plane crash left no human survivors. But, a box on that flight was recovered ...and hidden. Now, "Seymour" wants to collect the box before more loons connected to those who came to kill him at the apartment get their hands on it.

This is a fast-paced story, with so many secrets and lies (great title, eh?) coming out of the woodwork, all leading back to "Seymour's" old life. The revelations come in droves - his past life was certainly way more colourful than the life he's been leading since. There's little - if anything - to compare selling things on eBay to the race for the mystery box and its contents.

This seemed to be a fitting story to connect the stories of each of the four characters; they've all had major story-lines, and their relationships have grown stronger. It's true, Del and Sabrina have a knack for being dragged into a drama; trouble seems to seek them out. But, the story - in fact, the whole series - is not just about solving a mystery. It's about people: Del's self-deprecating humour made him seem more vulnerable at times, and he found his strength through others. Sabrina, as an author, found fans everywhere - and I mean everywhere, and her ability to write best-selling mysteries allowed her to read between the lines and see clues that the others took for granted. Mo's story is developed here, and despite everything that happens, she just wants to be a school teacher. As for "Seymour", this story reveals a totally different character - a strong man, just and fair, and with a great sense of humour. Who knew?

As always, the narrator brings this all to life, keeps the pace up, lets the listener share in the humour and keeps the flow easy to follow. Once you start listening, then you'll be hooked.

*** Update *** apparently there's a fifth book; available on Kindle or in paperback. It'll be interesting to see if real reading (and not listening to Greg's narration) will be as satisfying. I'm pretty sure it will be.
