About this listen

The sudden disappearance of Sara Weston is a mystery to her seventeen-year-old son, Keith. A survivor of an arson fire, Keith is still healing, and in Sara's absence, he must face a challenging situation alone: the release of his half-sister, Maggie, from prison. Maggie, who was partially responsible for the fire, is the handiest target for Keith's rage. Reintegration into the outside world proves difficult for Maggie, even beyond dealing with Keith and her guilt. Somehow the two must find a way to overcome the past because Maggie and her family may be all Keith has left.

The characters seemed genuine. The author's grasp of the human condition was apparent. I enjoyed it greatly

Best book I've listened to so far. Worth every penny

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

All of the characters have sympathetic qualities of their own story. I like the way everyone was entertwined.

Watch out for that twist at the end.

I couldn't stop with this one. I thought it was put together nicely with the four narratives and told a good story. All four characters kept me interested. Definitely would recommend it. My only issue was that the female narrator did an excellent job with the female characters but her grown male impersonations made me nuts. I'm glad she didn't have many male lines!

Good read

After reading the negative narrator reviews I was expecting to be disappointed but I wasn't. I liked all the narration and felt like they fit h characters. I liked the story in its entirety but never understood why the 'other woman' got that she was 'the other woman'! I liked the chsract

Surprisingly enchanting

I have really come to like this author ... Her stories keep me on the edge of my seat trying to figure it out.
It was a great plot and the characters were intriguing.

Couldn't stop listening!

it was a pretty good story, but it was hard to want to listen to because the narrators were so slow.

Would you be willing to try another one of Abby Craden and Kris Koscheski ’s performances?

The voices of males narrated by Abby Craden were so gravelly it was worse than nails on a chalk board, and her women and girls were mostly whiney. Andy's voice done by Kris Koscheski was perfect, and a great relief!

Any additional comments?

The story was twisty & kept me listening in spite of my ears bleeding, which says a lot for Diane Chamberlain.

Ouch! My ears still hurt!

I would have enjoyed this story more if Ms. Craden didn't sound like a bullfrog croaking out the male's voices and utterly winded while reading the female ones. That sharp intake of breath after every sentence was annoying.
The story itself was good enough, but ultimately destroyed by the narration.

Worst Narration Ever

Maggie's voice which always sounded like she was whispering got annoying after awhile. She just never seemed like she got any backbone, which at first seemed appropriate but after awhile just made her seem insipid.

A bit heavy handed of an ending

This is another one of her books that does not disappoint. You become so attached to the characters and I really hated for the story to be over. Her style of writing keeps you guessing what is going to happen, and it's always good!!

Another great Diane Chamberlain book!
