About this listen

What if you lived in Victorian London, the time of Jack the Ripper? What if you were one of the women he attacked, yet you managed to escape? And what if you knew he needed to find you and silence you before you identified him?

New maid Dorcy Edwards flees the scene of where her employer's body is found. His murder sparks a chain of macabre events. Cloistered on a remote island with five strangers, including Gareth Davenport, her late employer's brooding, but darkly handsome heir, Dorcy encounters baffling questions with what she fears may be terrifying answers. Who cut the telegraph lines? Who left a mutilated animal carcass outside her bedroom door? What is the reason for Gareth's black gloves and eye patch? Can he be "Jack the Ripper", the madman suspected to be Mr. Davenport's killer? Dorcy must solve the mystery, and soon, or her growing attraction for Gareth could be her very death sentence.

Wonderfully written historical murder mystery

This is a wonderful mystery set in the 1800's during the time of Jack the Ripper. First of all I have to say that while I loved this story the narrating by Marcus Hyde was outstanding. This murder mystery kept me guessing till the very ending. I love Dorcy's character and I was completed Charmed by Gareth from the very beginning. I thought the story was masterfully written in such detail I felt like I was living in the story. I could hear the window blowing smell the perfume and it drove me crazy I couldn't solve the murder. I like the the subtle romanceand the last paragraph was perfect. Buy buy buy!!

See no evil

Any additional comments?

For much of the story, I couldn't figure out who might be the killer Then, just when I thought I had it all figured out, the story took another twist and I was left wondering again. When the identity of the murderer was finally revealed, Great whodunit novel

Good Mystery

Good mystery with an unexpected twist. The theatrical reading was an extra bonus. Very well done.

old school mystery

Any additional comments?

This is a very short but entertaining listen. It doesn’t feel as if the length of it affected it in any negative way. Everything is here…mystery, murder, romance, family issues, skeletons in the closet.

It is a blend of romance and mystery. Neither overshadows the other. You just aren’t sure about Gareth. While Dorcy wears her personality on her sleeve from the very first pages, Gareth comes across as the mysterious stranger, mainly because, that’s who he is at the beginning. Part of the mystery is unraveling all that is Gareth.

Solid characterization, smooth narration, and a spooky house on a tiny island make for a pleasant afternoon. The storyline didn’t blow me away. This is more of a cozy mystery than I usually go for. But I’m glad I didn’t pass this up. I enjoyed getting stuck on the island with the snobby family characters and the soft spoken lower class characters. (Even though, from the reading of the will, you totally know it’s going to happen.)

Who Killed Mr. Davenport? Not Me!

I was dragged full body and mind into this tale by Miss Mae. Wow! It is full of suspense, some action, intriguing characters, a little budding romance, and lots of fog. This story has so many twists and turns that at one point I think I cast every character as the villain. It definitely kept me guessing until the end.

Miss Mae, so far I have listened to three samples of your writing, a children's book with enough sub-humor to keep the adult entertained, a space bound science fiction, and now a mystery. Wow again! All of these are more than worth the read.

Marcus Hyde does more than justice narrating this story. I could feel the emotions of each character and felt like I was right there with them.

A creepy story to listen to for Halloween

I really liked the narrator right off the bat. The story is creepy without delving into horror. I think it would make a great Halloween listen. It has the feel of the ghost stories told around the campfire (but there are no ghost or anything paranormal).

Another great listen!

Another exciting period piece story well written by Miss Mae & delivered well by narrator Marcus Hyde. Mystery & intrigue will keep you listening to hear if the culprit will be found out while a romance develops. Take a listen!

This story will keep you on the edge of your seat

Where does See No Evil, My Pretty Lady rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the best. Miss Mae has a way of pulling you in. In this story, she's woven an intricate plot that is so visual, I forgot I was sitting in my living room, and that the year was 2016. I was drawn to the cobblestone streets of London, to a different time era, and into the lives of several eeerie characters. All of whom could have been the murderer.

What did you like best about this story?

Each character was a suspect.I couldn't figure out who the murderer was. At one point, I'd say, "I know who it is!" The next chapter threw the light on someone else. Not until ithe culprit was revealed at the end did I know. And believe me, it turned out to b a complete surprise.

Have you listened to any of Marcus Hyde’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first time I've listened to Mr. Hyde's performance. He does a remarkably authentic voice for each character, so much that I could make out each distinct voice. Marcus Hyde made the story come alive for me.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! Absolutely YES. I had to pause the audio from one night to the next. It took three nights to hear it all. Duty called elsewhere. If I'd had my rathers, I'd stayed up and listened to the very end on the first night.

Any additional comments?

I didn't realize how enjoyable an audio book could be. Especially, a good mystery/suspense. I'm hooked. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

See No Evil, My Pretty Lady

Just who is Jack the Ripper? Well Dorcy better figure it out, and quickly, before she becomes one of his victims!

Miss Mae drew me into this story with all her twists and turns. Every time I thought I had things figured my theory was disproven. Way to keep me guessing.

Marcus Hyde did a fantastic job with the narration. His timing and inflections were spot on. Thanks for the entertaining performance.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
