About this listen

Book 1 of the Safe Harbor male/male sports romance series. Book 2 is Hiding In Plain Sight. Each can be read as a standalone. Hockey player Jason Monroe lives a double life - star defenseman and soon-to-be Olympian on the ice and closeted gay man outside the rink. A serious relationship is out of the question, and Jason makes do with anonymous sex in barroom bathrooms, not willing to take the chance on coming out as gay in a decidedly macho sport.

Advisor to the US Olympic hockey team Patrick Parker knows a thing or two about being a professional hockey player who's not out. He's fifteen years older than Jason, and when he senses the sexy younger man is interested, he knows he shouldn't give in to the attraction.

The two men can't keep their hands off each other, though, and with each heated encounter it gets harder to hide their relationship. When their world blows up around them, forcing them into the limelight, though, will their love survive or be put on ice?

Sexy story

Would you consider the audio edition of See the Light to be better than the print version?

I've read See the Light before and this was my first time listening to an audio book which I really enjoyed. In some ways, the audio edition is better because now you have actual voices associated with the characters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Patrick was my favorite character in this story because he was more mature which I found sexier and I enjoyed the raw lust and desire he showed and acted on with Jason.

Have you listened to any of Jason P. Hilton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first time listening to an audio book and I enjoyed Jason P. Hilton's performance. I liked how he narrarated this story, the fluctuation in his voice to differentiate between the two main characters and their emotions.

Wonderful story

This is not only a hot story but a sweet one as well. Jason is a young man who is just now figuring out his sexuality and Patrick is there to help him. I truly enjoyed the relationship that blossoms between these two men. I loved the banter and the camaraderie that Jason and Patrick have. It was nice to see Jason grow and find himself with the help of Patrick. The two men make a great couple and endeared themselves to this reader right from the start.
I also enjoyed the other team members and how they gathered around and helped each other when it was needed.

This is a fast paced story full of emotions and wonderful characters that will pull you in right from the start.

enjoyed

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This had a couple of first for me, my first Cassandra Carr book or audio, I didn’t realize she did MM? This is also my first for narrator Jason P. Hilton. Total length is just under 4 hours, so a quick story. Just enough for a new person to know for sure of they like an author in audio format and if they like a narrator.
This is book one, in the Safe Harbor series and I believe a great start to a series. We have Jason a 22 year old Hockey player that is gay, but is in the closet and has no plans of coming out. He feels like hockey is the wrong sport to be openly gay in. And Patrick 35, retired hockey player and now, coach, adviser to a hockey team as well as Jason adviser to the up and coming Olympics’.
As soon as Jason and Patrick see each other they feel a connection but like Jason, Patrick is also in the closet as work. Although he has told some close friends and his family. They both hold off of their attraction for as long as possible but find it’s just too strong. And let fate takes its course.
I have to say, for my first experience with both of these, I really enjoyed them. I haven’t had much success with authors that write mainly MF and then come over to MM side. But Ms. Carr does a brilliant job penning a MM book. And I can’t wait for the next in the series. Her sexual encounters between the two MC are not only HOT but meaningful. You can feel the tension between these two, the passion. My only complaint is I wish we had a little more story and a little less sexual encounters, it seems like we didn’t really get a good story going until the last 30 minutes or so.
Not sure how I’ve missed Jason P. Hilton voice before now? Listening to a lot of audio, but I will certainly be adding his name to my list of go to narrators. He does a great job going between the different characters. Pause breaks when needed, right amount of lust, heat during the right scenes. Compassion when it all went to hell at the end. Made you feel like you were there with them.

What a great start to this series!

Wowee was this a hot read. Jason “knows” he’s gay but has done very little to act upon this knowledge. He’s visited some clubs but never had a relationship and never really had the “full experience” as he defines it and doesn’t know that he wants it. He’s a hockey player first and foremost and though he accepts that he likes men more than women, he’s not quite sure he’s comfortable identifying as a “gay man”, and he isn’t out to anyone.
Patrick is the opposite. He’s older. He’s had relationships. Though he still isn’t out professionally, he’s out to his friends and family. His interest in Jason at first is strictly professional, but when Jason begins acting peculiarly around him, he begins to have his suspicions. When he bravely acts on these suspicions he’s richly rewarded and the couple begins a deeply closeted affair, consisting of stolen moments over the course of months. They don’t even live in the same state, they have busy schedules and it is hard for them to be together.
The benefit of this is that Patrick can’t rush Jason or push him to doing anything that makes Jason uncomfortable and this helps ease Jason into accepting his sexuality more.
I thought the dialog between the guys felt very natural and masculine. Neither guy was overly “in touch with his feelings” much and so the natural hurdles that would exist between two recalcitrant males felt organic.
When the couple is in close contact during the Olympics things really begin to heat up. There is an uncomfortable moment when a homophobic slur is made that stops play during a game and Jason has a crisis of conscience about continuing his “straight” charade when others have to face discrimination without support. Patrick leaves the decision up to Jason on how much to reveal, advising that times might be changing, but there are never any guarantees.
Finally, an accident forces the couple to show their hands and they have to face the media, their team, and their family, and (especially hard for Jason) – themselves.
**
All in all, the story was really very well written. The slow movements toward couple-hood felt natural and well-paced. The chemistry was super hot and the emotions were real and fulfilling. I thought the hurdles were realistic and tackled in a way that seemed authentic.
The narrator did an excellent job. He has a very deep voice that really seemed to fit both Alpha Males and I really enjoyed his narration of their bantering dialog especially.
I hadn’t read the author or listened to the narrator before, but I will now be on the lookout! I highly recommend both the story and the audiobook and give both 4.5 of 5 stars.

Incredibly Hot

Although at times a bit angsty, it was an incredibly stirring story. Who wouldn't feel torn placed in the same situation? A professional athlete in a decidedly VERY macho sport who is a closeted gay man. I enjoyed watching both characters coming to terms with not only their feelings for each other, but also their relationship being exposed.

The narration could have used a bit more emotional. At times the narrator sounded detached as if reading a page before them but they could care less. I could feel the angst and anxiety the characters felt but only because I've read the actual book.

The sex was steamy and emotional, just what I've come to expect from Carr. She never disappoints!
