About this listen

The final conflict.

Chaos has erupted throughout the known galaxy, threatening countless colonies and orbital habitats - as the Associative struggles vainly to keep the peace. Extreme measures are called for in these times of dire crisis, and the Star Marines are awakened from their voluntary 850-year cybe-hibe sleep. But General Trevor Garroway and his warriors are about to discover that the old rules of engagement have drastically changed....

The end begins with an old-style assault on rebels at the Tarantula Stargate. But true terror looms at the edges of known reality. Humankind's eternal enemy - the brutal, unstoppable Xul - approaches, wielding a weapon monstrous beyond imagining. Suddenly, not only is the future in jeopardy, but the past is as well - and if the Marines fail to eliminate their relentless xenophobic foe once and for all, the Great Annihilator will obliterate every last trace of human existence.

Ok, semper whatever, I get it....

What did you like best about Semper Human? What did you like least?

The concept of quantum sea and its implications are fascinating.

Any additional comments?

The story is almost destroyed by the sappy nostalgia about Marines and their history to a annoying level. In the first book it was annoyingly frequent enough, but in this book it goes way(!) overboard.

Wonderful conclusion

I honestly wish that the author would have maintained the original characters from the other two books in this trilogy, and Audible didn't take so long to get this on. I also wish the original narrator would have stayed on...but beyond those minor gripes, it was a great book.

Trilogy should have ended at two books

It was a struggle to finish this book! The entire trilogy wasn't great but this book was terrible.

nice finish

I wasnt happy about the change in narrator but I found this one pretty entertaining. The ending imo was fulfilling and complete, I feel a lot of endings leave you hanging but this one give a nice wrap up.

Why was this book written?

The Inheritance Trilogy should have been 3 books -1. The first two books are decent SciFi and enjoyable to listen to. This third book is a complete disconnect from the main story line. First, it takes place 800 years in the future from the ending of the second book. Second, it is more of a US Marines history of famous events and battles instead of being focusing on the SciFi story created in the first two books.

I got the feeling the author set out to write a trilogy but pretty much ran out of steam at the end of book two and was just grasping at straws for the third. All I can say is WTH?!

Marines in space?

I am tired of people calling fighting men and women in space for Marines. In this book he takes it one step to fare for a non US citizens, the book in it self is okay but abit to patriotic some times.

Bought a space military book and got a history lesson instead. Not worth it.

I loved the first 2 books in the inheritance series and it should have ended with book 2 because this one is weak. 2/3rds of the last 3 hours, is not space battles but f'ing history. The author must have forgotten what genre he's writing in. very disappointed.

Not nearly as good as previous books

I relistened to Book 2 (Galatic Corps) before listening to this, and I am glad I did not because it made this one more understandable or remember where last we left off, but because it made realize why I liked this series in the first place. The Mars series and the Inheritance Trilogy were not nearly as preachy or monologue-filled as this novel was. I have seen others rail against people like Tom Clancy or books like "One Second After," and this is the opposite. If you were not of the author's viewpoint, this is one difficult slog of a book.

The second piece of my criticism is that often this book is not even science fiction or more accurately set in a science fiction setting. If I want to listen to a history of famous corps battles, I am sure there are other books to read, but in this situation the constant returning to old Marine battles simply seemed like filler.
