Publisher's summary

An audiobook from Garrison Keillor, a man nearing age 80, on leaning into the beauty of getting old. “My life is so good at 79 I wonder why I waited this long to get here,” he writes.

You learn that less is more, the great lesson of Jesus and also Buddha. Each day becomes important after you pass the point of life expectancy. Big problems vanish, small things make you happy. And, the worst is behind you because you lack the energy to be as foolish as you might otherwise be. Includes 23 rules for aging, including:

  • Enumerate your benefits
  • Enjoy inertia
  • Get out of the way
  • Don’t fight with younger people; they will be writing your obituary
  • Ignore rules you read in a book. Do what you were going to do anyway

And, much more!

Listeners are sure to chuckle at the wisdom and humor contained in this short volume, narrated in the legendary radio-quality voice of Garrison Keillor himself.

Enjoyable

Great book. A pleasant listen. I laughed often. I love his observations. Much hit home now that I am over 70

Love/Hate

loved the humor. Astonished by the brash and ignorant proclamations of liberal politics proclaiming Republicans are only for the rich

Wise, funny, delightful.

Keillor is back, happily living with his wife in NYC. Counting his blessings but with a raised eyebrow & witty takes on 21st century life, he's as great company as ever.

A wise and joy filled tribute to life.

There are enough people focusing on the bad news that unfortunately exists in the world today. While never closing a blind eye to injustice, GK keeps us tenaciously focused on the good news and humorous sides of daily life. We need more of this!

Delightful look at 70 - 80

Glad I took this journey with Garrison. Fun and reflective. Not sad or regretful at all.

it's Keillorific!

I liked it better than "Cats"... Jesus and ginger tea begins to shine thru the darkness.

Now I know Why I Feel So Good At 74

Because Garrison Keillor explained it to me. And, turns out, he knows exactly how I feel. I just didn’t have the words.

I would particularly recommend this to people in their 40’s or 50’s so they could understand how much joy awaits them.
