About this listen

Before the Scorpius Syndrome tore through North America and nearly wiped out the population, Vivienne Wellington was the FBI's best profiler. The bacteria got her anyway. But she survived. She recovered. And when she woke up from a drug-nightmare of captivity, her trust in her fellow man had gone from shaky at best to nonexistent. Her mysterious rescuer wants to convince her he's the exception. But no matter how tempting he is, with his angel's eyes and devil's tongue, Vinnie knows she shouldn't trust him.

If the FBI were still around they would rate Raze Shadow as one of the bad guys. His military training can't wipe out his association with the Mercenaries, the most feared gang in a thousand miles. His loyalties are compromised. He won't even tell Vinnie his real name. But there's no FBI in the new America of fear and firepower, only instinct and risk. And the way his arms wrap around her tells its own story. Whatever else Raze is concealing, he can't hide his desire.

A good plot

These books are very real to life. And have a good story line. But the reader is terrible. If the rest of the books have this reader I think I’m done.

Second book in the Scorpius Syndrome series

Interesting plot with good character development and pretty steady action. There are lots of additional characters introduced in this story and several subplots. The narration is ok but not great but the storyline makes the book worthwhile, especially if you have the escape package. The action scenes are engaging and it is a must for fans of this series.

Alpha male + Strong Female = Explosive chemistry

This is, Rebecca Zanetti's, second full-length novel in the Scorpius Syndrome series, an apocalyptic world, that you either survive, go crazy or die in. This book takes place basically right after Mercury Striking ended. I highly recommend reading these books in order, but you don't have to, so you better understand the world, the characters, the politics and all that's in play in this amazing series.

Raze Shadow is a lieutenant for Jax's survival group known as The Vanguard Compound. Shadow is a very skilled and dangerous man. The woman who gives Shadow a run for his sanity and loyalty is FBI profiler Dr Vivienne Wellington. Together these two are explosive, they have excellent edgy, sexy chemistry and you can't help but love them both.

“It’s a fallacy to believe that man is at his most dangerous when he has nothing to lose…the most ferocious of predators emerge when a man has everything to lose.”

Love this series

I love this series. I have all the books written so far and am now adding them to my audio collection. At the end of this audiobook you get a bonus story about the beginning of the Scorpius bacterium. I also love Zanetti's Sin Brothers and Blood Brothers seriess. Romance, drama, excitement, danger and even humor. Good reads.

I would give 4 1/2 stars, if I could.

I think I liked the first book a little better than the second, however, I enjoyed both of them emensly. I like how the characters find the simplest things to enjoy. I also like observing the relationships grow between people who doing the best they can.

My only complaint is about the ridiculous enthusiasm the narrator puts into the scripts, of the sex scenes. I just roll my eyes and laugh. However, it's too bad that I'm giggling at potentially hot sex scenes, lol! I will buy book 3 when it is available.

Great second installment in the series!

I enjoyed this second installment in the Scorpius Syndrome series. This is a series that I would recommend reading in order since the events from the previous book impacted this story. Each book in the series features a different couple but the couple from the first book played a significant role in this story. I was hooked by this story and couldn’t wait to see how things would work out for Vinnie, Raze, and the rest of the group.

Before the world fell apart, Vinnie worked as an FBI profiler and was very good at her job. So good, that some people believed that she must be psychic which got her in some trouble in the world ravaged by the bacteria. Raze feels protective of Vinnie since he rescued her but also has some less than honorable motives. Raze has his own secrets but can’t help what he feels for Vinnie. I thought that Vinnie and Raze had fantastic chemistry and their personalities were a very good match. I really enjoyed watching them figure things out.

The world-building in this book was very well done. The world is a desperate place and the group has a lot of things that they are going to have to figure out in order to survive. They need a significant amount of vitamin B to remain healthy after being infected. All resources are limited so there are threats from other groups that they must deal with sometimes closer to home than they think. There was a lot of action and excitement in the story which kept things very interesting.

Michael Pauley did a great job with the narration. I think that the voices that he uses for both the male and female characters were very well done. He is able to add just the right amount of excitement and emotion in his voice to really bring the story to life. I am certain that his narration added to my overall enjoyment of the story.

I would recommend this story to others. This book has the perfect combination of romance, action, and end of the world excitement which made this book very hard to put down. I cannot wait to read the next book in this exciting story.

I received a digital review copy of this book from Kensington Books via NetGalley and purchased a copy of the audiobook.

DNF because of the heroine

From the moment she was introduced she was needy, weak, clingy, clumsy and desperate. She put herself out there way too much while the hero was resistant (which is annoying). If there's a single thing that will cause me to DNF a story it's a weak heroine. She's also naive for a grown woman in an apocalyptic world. Extremely naive. Multiple people are after her after already being taken, 90% of the population are serial killers or worse, there are a shit ton of ruthless gangs and....this idiot doesn't even carry so much as a knife when she has access to a shit ton of weaponry.

She was one of the dumbest heroines of any apocalyptic story I've ever read/listened to. She annoyed me to no end. This dumb bitch finds out he's going to trade her to a horrible group of men and she.....has sex with him. But don't worry she's "really angry". This was legitimately one of the top worst heroines I've ever read. Then this stupid bitch feels bad for reading his letter. STUPID BITCH! He yells at her about "manipulating him" and is furious at HER and thos dumb bitch ACTUALLY EXPLAINS HERSELF TO HIM!!! He threatens to beat her and she STILL acts like she did something wrong then cries. literally doesn't even tell this guy "it wasnt cool to fuck me while you were intending on handing me over to a bunch of fucking gang members" I cannot say stupid bitch enough to summarize this fucking idiot! I just wish someone shot her in the fucking face.

The narration was awful! How do you sound both robotic and over dramatic simultaneously! In them same paragraph. Like both to an extreme degree. When performing dialogue he was pretty decent at times and then would immediately sound all robotic again. It was just bizzare listening to him.
