About this listen

Carny Sullivan grew up in the zany world of a traveling carnival. Quaint and peaceful Serenity, Texas, has given her a home, a life, and a child. Logan Brisco is the smoothest, slickest, handsomest man Serenity has ever seen. But Carny Sullivan knows a con artist when she sees one—and she’s seen plenty, starting with her father. As far as Carny Sullivan can tell, she’s the only one in town who has his number. Because from his Italian shoes to his movie-actor smile, Logan has the rest of the town snowed.

Carny is determined to reveal Brisco’s selfish intentions before his promise to the townspeople for a cut in a giant amusement park sucks Serenity dry. Yet as much as she hates his winning ways, there is a man behind that suave smile, a man who may win her heart against her will.

Shadow in Serenity is a modern-day Music Man, penned by a Christy Award-winning, New York Times best-selling author.

Enjoyed

Any additional comments?

Terri Blackstock is one of my favorite authors and this book did not disappoint. Not her normal "suspense" story, but a wonderful story all the same.

Pain, sorrow,salvation,healing,joyful.

What made the experience of listening to Shadow in Serenity the most enjoyable?

I cared about the characters. The reader was able to read the story in such a way that you knew who the character was. At the same time it did not seem fake.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Carney. Even though she was a believer she still went through changes. Her relationship with the savior grew. She carried around guilt that God had all ready forgiven like we all do, but through the story she was able to face them and lay them down. She forgave herself.

What about Gabrielle de Cuir’s performance did you like?

She nailed it.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Tears of joy.

Any additional comments?

It is really hard to take this genre and keep it fresh. The salvation experience begins to sound the same for every story because it is. We all come to Jesus the same way. Terri is able to make the Characters real so you care about them and that is what keeps each story new.

Interesting story

I like the characters and how redemption through Christ was woven through the story. Thank you Terri.

A nice revamping ...

What made the experience of listening to Shadow in Serenity the most enjoyable?

I loved the lead character; as always, this author's characters and dialogue are wonderful and believable. I knew pretty much where the plot was headed, but it was a great ride.

What other book might you compare Shadow in Serenity to and why?

Well, it's a stand-alone. It's actually a rewrite of an earlier novel, before the author stopped writing secular novels. It reminds me of a modern day Music Man; the charming crook who comes to town and tries to con all of Carny's family. Great fun listen, without being too sweetie-sweetie.

Which scene was your favorite?

Too many to count.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I had listened to this narrator in Truth Stained Lies, and was so surprised when she comes on with this fun, country accent. I was so surprised! She was so good at both books, I don't know if the real narrator is Southern, or not.

Any additional comments?

I don't care for books where the characters keep talking to God and he answers. Terri manages to maintain the spirituality of the characters without losing a good plot and romance. Love the narrator. I think she's a perfect match for Terri's work.

Wasn't expecting much.

I listened to this nonstop for a day. I found myself rooting for the assumed villain. Loved the grace shown in this book.

Awesome book! A must read!!! Great clean love story, but they could've left the kissing out though.

No serenity in this book for the listener

Weak story line and even weaker characters. I think Terri Blackstock has lost her touch.
I finished it just to see how predictable it would be and I was spot on. Waste of money and my time listening.
