About this listen

Mercenary soldiers in the service of the Lady, the Black Company stands against the rebels of the White Rose. They are tough men, proud of honoring their contracts. The Lady is evil, but so, too, are those who falsely profess to follow the White Rose, reincarnation of a centuries-dead heroine. Yet now some of the Company have discovered that the mute girl they rescued and sheltered is truly the White Rose reborn. Now there may be a path to the light, even for such as they. If they can survive it.

Audible has done a great job bringing this series to audio. I can't wait to buy the next one

Great Series

I cannot recall the last time I was so enthralled with a book. In a grim world, this story delves into how far men can fall, but also how they might rise. It takes a look at the infectious nature of evil and how circumstance and fate can press desperate people.

Absolutely amazing and completely engaging.

absolutely brilliant characters and plot, best of the war fantasy genre and still sooo unique.

Need HBO to bring this to video like GoT

Second book in series, even better than the first. Shady charachters is interesting. Neither black nor white.

Good listen

It is a little slower to start off than the first one but it's just as good. I love following the misadventures of the company.

great book

If you read the Black Company you need to read this second book. It puts and end to a story with the beginning of a new thread.

The story snuck up on me. Early and even up to a quarter of the way through I felt the story was dragging. However this is a sign of an artist at work as it was not dragging but providing a rich back story for what was to come.

What I had thought to be fluff was pure gold. Croaker and company then proceeded to put closure around several story lines. Then in the final moments a new wide open story is begun with a rich and well developed cast of characters behind it.

If the next six books are as well crafted as the first two it will be an investment well made. The black company is such a nice departure from the traditional fantasy Orcs, Dwarfs and Elf's staple but remains true to even the most dedicated fans that everyone should give it a chance.

A great bookend to the first book

My favorite fantasy series. Glen Cook is a master of the genre. I highly recommend all of his works.

Magnificent sequel

A sequel better than the first. Very gritty and real, can't wait to read the next book.

Would you consider the audio edition of Shadows Linger to be better than the print version?

Much better than book 1- if I was not being pushed by a good friend of mine to keep reading I would have stopped after the first book but man does Cook get into a groove! Things happen quickly- new characters enter and they are fun as heck to love and hate. I loved this story. Creepy and dark but really was suspenseful even though a lot is till left unknown about the Lady and her hubby. I am now happily getting book 3! Reader - I really do like Vietor- his voice is perfect for the type of story this is - gruff, to the point. I wish he had more range since there a bunch of character in the Company - but since 75% is narrative from Croaker, it works out well.

Which scene was your favorite?

The end scene was very cool- dont want to spoil anything.

Progress!!
