About this listen

Rescued from Indians, Cecily McGuinness suffers from horrendous nightmare; ones that have her running from her lodging into the woods. She'll never be normal again and most of the townspeople look at her with disdain. All she ever wanted was a family and a place to call home. Sheriff Shane O'Connor is tired of tracking Cecily down each time she takes flight. Finally he makes her an offer to keep his house and help turn it into a farm. Her past doesn't taint her in his eyes. In fact he finds himself very attracted to her but keeps his distance. She'd suffered enough at the hands of Long Nose. Amid cheating gamblers, old friends who unexpectedly show up and a fire, a closeness develops between them. Cecily believes she isn't fit to be a wife anymore. Can Shane convince her heart and soul that she is indeed worthy of a great love?

A Well Written Love Story

Our Hero was Shane, the town sheriff. He got tired of tracking down Cecily who suffered PTSD from her time with some Indians. She had been tortured and raped. When the town said she should have killed herself and looked at her showing that she would not be welcome. She only wanted to be normal again and have a husband and family. Shane offers Cecily a job and a place to stay being his housekeeper. Over the next weeks, they both start falling in love with each other. There is miscommunication between them. But finally there is a happy ending. I just love happy endings. This a well written story. I would recommend this story for anyone to read.

What a wonderful story!

I loved how Shane kept defending Cecily even from the beginning! Her being taken and abused by the Natives was not her fault but he championed her to everyone! I enjoyed the audio version of this book as a gift from the author as part of the Birthday promotion on the Sweet Wild West Reads page on Facebook! Thank you Kathleen it was my favorite gift!

A Journey of Healing

I am loving this series and this just warmed my heart. Cecily was another victim of a false mail order bride request. When she arrived in town, the man took her to the Indians and she was tortured and abused until she was rescued.
Shane is the sheriff and he has tried to keep an eye on her but she keeps wandering off when she has one of her nightmares, so he suggest she come work for him and help him build his farm.
All goes well until a long lost "friend" of his boyhood shows up and tries to cause trouble.
A journey to understanding and forgiveness of what life has dealt but the strength to go on to live and love.
I adored these two and the narrator Julie Hoverson was her usual excellent self that was perfect for this amazing story.
