About this listen

Awakening wounded in a darkened cell, their psychic abilities blocked, Aden and Zaira know they must escape. But when the lethal soldiers break free from their mysterious prison, they find themselves in a harsh, inhospitable landscape far from civilization. And they must survive. A shadowy enemy has put a target on the back of the Arrow squad - an enemy that cannot be permitted to succeed in its deadly campaign.

Aden will cross any line to keep his people safe for this new future, where even an assassin might have hope of a life beyond blood and death and pain. Zaira has no such hope. Her driving goal is to protect Aden - protect the only person who has ever come back for her no matter what. This time even Aden's passionate determination may not be enough - because the emotionless chill of Silence existed for a reason. For the violent and the insane and the irreparably broken...like Zaira.

Tired of listening to stories about humans? Consider the werewolf! Taking various forms over the course of centuries and mythologies, often as flesh-devourers, werewolves now commonly appear in fantasy and romance novels as shape-shifters. The shape-shifting element in werewolves' stories has almost humanized them, depicting the internal struggles we all face within ourselves, on some level or another.

Lots of connections

I certainly have fondness for Aden after this one, but my favorite parts of this book are the snippets of all the various characters we have one to know over the series as the book weaves in how the groups connect now. It also brings new story arcs and characters including a new leopard pack to bring us back to some of the grrrr from the first part of the series.

Aden and Zaira are both damaged people who have knew they were meant to be since they first met. Zaira has this darkness inside of her where she thinks she does not deserve love or anything nice. Aden understands what she has gone through and accepts her with all of her flaws. This story had a lot of action and it sets up perfectly for all of the Arrow children that get to be kids. I loved meeting a new pack within this world and I am looking forward to getting to know them more.

I want more!

My only complaint is that Nalini Singh can't write fast enough to suit me. I love this whole series and the intertwined characters. I love the ways in which the three races have come together and built bridges between them to combat evil in the world.

Loved the book. Very bad sound quality.

What did you love best about Shards of Hope?

I love this series and really enjoyed this book but the sound quality for this one is just awful. Angela Dawe does an amazing job narrating this series and it's a shame the poor sound quality makes it hard to get through this book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes but the sound quality made it hard to listen to it.

voice variance is irritating

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes - if you have wonderful hearing or a great sound system

What was one of the most memorable moments of Shards of Hope?

The mirror

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I love the story and actually like the reader BUT it is so irritating when she drops into a whisper type of voice and I loose half of what is being said.

The story continues to grow!

I like that we hear more about the lies and progression of characters from past stories.

This story can leave it alone but will be much more comprehensive and enjoyable for those who read earlier books.

Great addition to the series

I swear this series never lets me down....NEVER!! I knew Aiden's story would be just as great as his character hinted at being. I love that he's always known who and what he was and never let silence change him. I's a nice switch having the female be all super possessive but that didn't detract from Aiden's alphaness and his appeal. great story, great characters, great lead into the "next big thing". LOVED THIS BOOK!!

Story 4.25
Narrator 4.5

Angela Dawe is one of the few female narrators who I know will NEVER disappoint. She makes the men sound sexy and the women sound intelligent. Great Job.

I cannot wait until the next installment. There were no hints at whom the next Hero will be but I hope it's the alpa from River Fire (i think that's the name of the pack).
