About this listen

From New York Times bestselling author Bernard Cornwell, now available in paperback—bestselling historical novelist Bernard Cornwell brings life to one of the most spectacular naval battles in history with SHARPE’S TRAFALGAR.

"The greatest writer of historical adventures today." —Washington Post

Critically acclaimed, perennial New York Times bestselling author Bernard Cornwell (Agincourt, The Fort, the Saxon Tales) makes real history come alive in his breathtaking historical fiction. Praised as "the direct heir to Patrick O'Brian" (Agincourt, The Fort), Cornwell has brilliantly captured the fury, chaos, and excitement of battle as few writers have ever done—perhaps most vividly in his phenomenally popular novels following the illustrious military career of British Army officer Richard Sharpe during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Chronicling Sharpe's involvement in the famous Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, Sharpe's Trafalgar finds the young ensign captive on a French warship and in gravest peril on the eve of the one of the most spectacular naval confrontations in history. Perhaps the San Francisco Chronicle said it best: "If only all history lessons could be as vibrant."

My favorite so far

As a fan of the Horatio Hornblower series this felt like a satisfying crossover with that world. Sharpe is the perfect eyes through which to see the age of sail and his story is never lost among the drama of one of history’s greatest naval battles.

It was fun to have Nelson introduced before Trafalgar

It was fun to have Nelson introduced before Trafalgar. I wish the historical afterwords were included. The battle was even bloodier than I expected. A few more of Sharpe’s enemies were dispatched. IT appears he may become a father. We’ll see of his involvement with the countess continues. Now to join the rifles.

Another Great Sharpe Audio Book

Sharpes Trafalgar follows in the tradition of the earlier (story-wise) Cornwell novels and is a immensely readable, fun, well researched historically, sometimes a bit far fetched but always gripping yarn of Ensign Sharpe. Definitely worth reading/listening to!

Another winner!

Plenty of action and great historical context. The series is so enjoyable! I don’t always read in order and it doesn’t seem to matter. Highly recommend!

great story, great characters, 4.5/5 performance

I love Sharpe! just a rolling good time. this book was a nice break from India, I'm excited for him to get to the rifles. My one quibble has to do with the narrators mispronunciation of a few words.
Calliope is a Greek word and has an extra syllable on the end. and the first time gunnell is pronounced. it is pronounced like gun whale. other than that, very minor point, this book was excellent

Amazing story and reader, but missing content

I love these books by Bernard Cornwell, and the rest is fantastic. Unfortunately, this series as presented on Audible leaves out one of the best parts of Cornwell's books; the historical note. At the end of each book Cornwell tells of the fact/fiction of the story and the short notes really bring to life the amazing feats and horror of the historic battles. These notes were left out of this audiobook recording.
