About this listen

“If you love historical drama…then look no further.”

Boston Globe

Bernard Cornwell, the perennial New York Times bestselling author of the Richard Sharpe series and “perhaps the greatest writer of historical adventure novels today” (Washington Post) joins co-author Susannah Kells for A Crowning Mercy—a breathtaking romantic adventure set against the dramatic backdrop of the English Civil War. The exciting story of a rebellious Puritan woman on a perilous quest for love and fortune, A Crowning Mercy is a must for Cornwell fans as well as for devoted readers/listeners of Sharon Kay Penman and Diana Gabaldon.

Riveting!

This story was riveting! There were so many surprises, so many twists to the plot. The end was what I hoped for, but never saw coming.

Outstanding narrator

Great narration. Interesting story and historical detail. Like the way the events of the time were woven into the story.

Worth the credit

I enjoyed the book and the performance was great. It wasn’t overly historical but I did enjoy it. I tend to be a harsh critic but I would recommend.

One of the BEST listens EVER!!

One of the best books-and best Audible books-I’ve ever read/listened to. It has everything! A love story, an adventure, despicable villains, the beauty of friendship. Everything! I loved every second of it and recommended it as highly as possible! Franklin, the narrator was utterly superb! Bravo!

Excellent Ending

I'm usually way ahead of the plot with most books and movies, but I didn't expect that final twist. Very nice.

Great story

Well told and well narrated. I was a little thrown off at first by a female narrator with a Bernard Cromwell book, but once I figure it out, the protagonist was a female. It made total sense in the narrator did a great job!

Gripping historical novel

Although I had foreseen the ending quite early on, it did not detract from my pleasure in the plotting and the truly wonderfully wrought despicable characters. It’s a good summer read—I listened every day as I would take long hikes with my dog. The voices were beautifully done.

brilliant masterclass of writing perfection

Few books are as great as this one. This book contains everything you could want in a historical fiction novel.
From treasure, deceit, fighting, and love this book has it all. How this book doesn't have more reviews I will never know. Highly recommended

Cornwell writing pseudonym

Cornwell’s efforts writing from woman’s perspective almost worked. No doubt if had thought it WAS a woman without knowing it was Richard Sharpe’s inventor it would have been 5 stars. I The suspense aspect was EXCELLENT… he had me to the very end. As it is I give it a solid 4.6, & unless a book is 4.6 I don’t read it. Too many good books too little time.
