About this listen

The Untold Saga of Shawn O'Brien

From acclaimed storytellers William W. Johnstone and J. A. Johnstone, who brought us The Brothers O'Brien, comes an explosive new series featuring the gunslinging O'Brien who brought peace, law, and order to the American frontier...one bullet at a time.

A Man Who Tamed the West - One Town at a Time

Unlike his brothers, Jacob, Sam, and Patrick, Shawn O'Brien isn't content to settle down on the family ranch in New Mexico territory. With his razor-sharp eye, lightning-fast draw, and burning thirst for justice, Shawn is carving out a reputation of his own. As a town tamer, he takes the most dangerous, lawless towns in the West and makes them safe for decent men, women, and children.

When a stagecoach accident leaves Shawn stranded in Holy Rood, Utah, it doesn't take long to realize he's landed in one ornery circle of hell. Ruled by a cruel and cunning crook turned merciless dictator named Hank Cobb, Holy Rood is about as unholy a place as any on the frontier. Anyone who breaks Cobb's rules is severely punished. Anyone who defies Cobb's hooded henchmen dies by rope, stake, or guillotine. But Shawn O'Brien isn't just anyone. He's the town tamer. And this time he's going to paint the town red....

Great story. Clean language

Where do I start? It started slower than some. But the further it went, the better it became. I hated to hear this one end.
Highly recommend to all western fans.

Man Slaughter

This is not the usual books I have read, by the Johnstone Brothers, but I thought, why not give it a shot. They usually write stories about the Jensen Family. Just the same I am glad I did read it. Shawn O'Brien, a man everyone calls The Town Tamer, because he usually wounds up in towns taken over by outlaws, lawless, etc. Before he rides out all is well and everyone is back in a friendly and orderly town under the control of the Sherrif. One of his long time friends asks him to ride to a town called Broken Bridle, Texas and check on his Son. His Son was the Sherrif there and he was worried something may be not be right through their communications. Shawn and a friend, Hemp Sedley, (a Professional Gambler) ride out to check on the young man. Upon arrival the Sherrif is not cooperative and neither are the people he runs into. No one will talk. Shawn thinks something has the Sherrif and the whole town frightened and he begins to look around. He learns there's two men, both mean, vile and each has a group of hired guns. Both men have the same thing in mind, to take over the small town and control it. One man runs a protection racket and the businesses have to pay him or pay the price of no protection. Becker is his name and he also runs a con game from the Saloon on the side. The second man is a insane Psychiatrist, who was run out of Abaline because he had a 90% patient mortality rate. His name was Dr. Richard Clausen. When he arrived and ran into Becker he decided to hide out with his hired guns outside town in the mountains, called Rattle Snake Hills. He had a plan, but he had to get rid of Becker 1st. Shawn gets involved in between these two men. They both have a reason to want to control this town. The best part of this story, in addition to all the action that is packed into it is the climax. I must say I was totally supprised how it ended and never saw it comming. I felt like I was emerged right in the town of Broken Bridle and didn't want to put the book away. This was not a town that needed taming, but Shawn had his hands full up until the end. I recommend this book to midteens and up, because of the violence. Before I go. This was a excellent story and I will buy more books on Shawn O'Brien, by the Johnstone brothers. By all means I want to give credit to Mr. Jack Garrett, for outstanding narriation. He is the best.

Appears to be a ghostwriter

Not typical Johnstone story. Drug on. Not good ending. Heroes questionable. Little too bloody and hard to be reasonable.

Below the mark on this one

With all of the well written books in the mountain man series and various others it was a disappointment to see this story so poorly written. Not nearly as easy to follow as the others and stay engaged with. Jack Garrett is my favorite of all of the narrator's, but he couldn't turn this one into a gem unfortunately.

Disappointing

Not one of Johnstones better books. I was expecting more. The plot was weak and redundant.

Not up to Johnstone work of the pass

Not up to Johnston work of the pass. Unbelievable crazy man overdoing his part. No one that worked under him could see what it was they were dealing with? They stood around knowing they worked for a crazy man that would kill on a mind conceived notion no matter what side they were on. unbelievable!!!
