About this listen

A compulsive debut thriller about motherhood, obsession, and how far we’d go to protect the ones we love

Five-year-old Ava Boone vanished without a trace six months ago. No witnesses, no sightings or arrests. But Grace Wright just moved in next door to the only suspect the case had: quiet, middle-aged Leland Ernest.

Recently divorced, Grace uprooted her two small children to start again and hopes the move will reset her crippling insomnia. With whispered neighborhood gossip and increasingly sleepless nights, Grace develops a fierce obsession with Leland and the safety of her children. Could she really be living next door to a child-kidnapper? A murderer?

With reality and dream blurring more each day, Grace desperately pursues the truth - following Ava’s family, demanding answers from the police - and then a body is discovered.

This is a book that really took me by surprise! At times I was so drawn in I forgot it was just a story. Highly recommend to mystery and suspense book readers!

I thought this was quite an interesting book. It doesn’t turn out how you would expect in the end. There’s a lot of different things going on but it all ties in together pretty well. It’s not too busy and it doesn’t seem like the author was reaching for too much which can be annoying sometimes when you read different books. It was a easy listen, except for the fact that the narrator did a horrible job and seem super annoying. Sometimes I lost focus in what I was listening to and had to go back just because I couldn’t help but get annoyed by the voice. Great book, horrible narration

Great book; Horrible narration

Thought I knew what was going on. Then I didn't. This story was absolutely different!!

Crazy!

This book was okay, but a bit boring, with an annoying protagonist. I don't have kids, but judging by the ones I've been around, 3 year olds don't converse like the one in this book. That gave it a bit of an unbelievable factor. The whole "not going to say anything about the candy" part was not very believable either. Even if it was, it made me dislike & become frustrated with Grace.

Overall, it was a decent story. I feel like the ending/"twist" could've been better, but I don't regret listening. It was just okay. I think it would be enjoyed more by people who have kids or someone who's not more interested in a gripping mystery/thriller.

Just....meh

I really enjoyed this book. The story was well paced and I didn’t want to stop listening. The author’s smattering of profanity coupled with the narrator’s delivery made for some laugh out loud moments in an otherwise tense storyline. This book speaks to all of the fears & insecurities parents, especially single, working parents, have when it comes to the safety & well being of their kids.

Great read/listen!

Read the reviews and thought I would like the book. Did finish it but seemed very depressing to me. The narrator did a great job and parts were very humorous but all in all I didn't love it.

Loved the narrator but felt the story dark.

I found it a but annoying how the main view point kept going back in her own head at random times...like it was hard to tell if she was talking to the other person or herself. Finished this book only to find out who murdered the child and the neighbor.

A little annoying

There’s so many levels to this one. Completely relatable and yet edgy. A genuine mystery up thru to the end. Definitely a great book!!

Phenomenal
